-- RAW MILK LAWS

Can someone tell me which state agency it is that oversees the sale

of raw milk within a state? Or can someone tell me where I can find

how my state (WV) laws apply to raw milk? I've heard that mere

POSSESSION of raw milk is illegal here, but I find that hard to

believe.

Thanks

Raw milk sales are illegal in WV, but there are reports of numerous sources of

raw milk from pasture-fed cows " for pets and livestock " . (Walsh Dairy, Spencer)

www.realmilk.com has lots of info. It looks like, from the info

below that it may not be legal to sell it in the state for human

consumption, but there are ways around (but within) the law. Check

out the site. You might could run to a nearby state to buy it - I

think it may be legal in VA, not sure about MD.

Steph

This is what's listed under sources for the state:

West Virginia

Cairo: CiscoKidz Farm, Barb Webb, RR 1 Box 325, Cairo,Wv 26337, (304)

628-3791. GoatTalkr9@.... Well cared for, family run goat farm.

Raw goat milk available,$4.00 a gallon. Colostrum will be available

in May. Some milk delivery is possible, depending on distance and

amount needed. Milk is stored/sold in glass jars to maintain flavor

and freshness.

Spencer: Walsh Dairy. On farms sales of raw milk products from

pasture-fed cows " for pets and livestock. "

See Wind Ridge, PA listing for Floratrek

I'd appreciate that, Charlene. Last time we asked the county health

department a question, well, we learned REALLY FAST that there IS

such a thing as a 'dumb question'!

It really isn't enough for me to know that someone (at some time) is

selling milk in WV, I need to know the law. I have been told, as I

probably said, that simple possession of raw milk for human

consumption is illegal and that importation (from VA, for example)

for personal use is illegal. As far as raw goats milk: I've been told

by the state that I cannot even GIVE raw goats milk away legally and

can only sell it if it is pastuerized!

Thanks, -Allan
