Guest guest
I just read this, and I'd bet that this is the one. Guest guest
Yep, I can't open it either. Re: Re: Suppressed tsh No, that is a zipped file of Dr. Dommisse's paper on thyroid treatment. Danny (Meep) put that on our site, and I have never been able to open it. . . . Guest guest
This is just one more thing that makes me believe that size has nothing to do with thyroid dosage. This is one reason why I am very wary about listening to people saying that just about everyone could take dose of 4 to 5 grains, nor do I believe that some people aren't doing fine on a dose of 60 to 90 mgs Armour. Look at the size of a cat, compared to a human, and then look at how some people say that they've felt wonderful on anywhere from 1 on up to 8 grains of Armour. All our general body chemistries are very complicated and unique, so I'm very dubious about a "set" approach for all individuals. This "set" approach is just as bad as doctors putting all their patients on Synthroid and saying we're all the same. That's a crazy thing for a vet to say, since even before I knew much of anything about hypo, it was well known by almost anyone who knows cats that cats commonly have thyroid problems. Charlie, my daughters Tom cat (who has long since passed on), I now know was hyperthyroid. His eyes stood way out, he got very skinny, he ate to a ridiculous point, to the point of eating around the clock, and acted so crazy during his last days on the earth. Re: Re: Suppressed tsh BTW I fell this subject is all too true! I have now split my dosages into three times a day and every split I feel that much better. I also did another increase... Good news! My CAT went to the vet the other day for testing. Of course the veterinarians aren;t ANY better than our doctors so they did the wrong tests, even though I asked for Free T3 & T4 all I got was a Total T4. But at 2 grains of Armour a day, he is still low by even that test! The vet about dropped her jaw on the floor. She had told me when I was there that in 8 years of practice she had never had a hypothyroid cat. I asked her if she had ever tested any of the overweight kitties for it, and of course she had not. Maybe my kitty's problems will open the door for at least some other sick kitties to get proper treatment. I am sure many of the diabetic cats in the world got that way due to untreated/undiagnosed hypothyroidism. Every vet I have had him to just tells me.. cats don;t GET hypothyroidism. He is proving them wrong. Artistic Grooming * Hurricane, WV

Guest guest
This is sort of unrelated, but... After my debacle with Levoxyl, my doctor has been loathe to increase my dosage, especially since he was going on vacation for two weeks. My TSH at four weeks was 3.5 or so, and my Free T4 was at the bottom of the range, at .9 My Total T3 (I wanted a Free count, but someone screwed up) was somewhere in the middle. I would like to call late next week and have my dosage increased nominally, as I am still somewhat symptomatic. What small amount should I ask for? I am currently on 30 mgs. Thanks-- Courtenay. Body weight is just one factor. Individual absorption rates vary greatly. There are large folks who need small doses and small people who need large doses. I know one small lady locally who was taking 360 mg of Armour. Her hypothyroidism had been caused by aluminum poisoning. After chelation therapy, she was able to reduce her Armour to 270 mg. Courtenay wrote: Is full replacement done according to body weight? Best-- Courtenay.

Guest guest
It's a great idea, except I had a dance student who had a diabetic device like that, and it clicked and whirred all the way through dance class. She found it to be a nuisance physically if she was doing any extreme activity. Best-- Courtenay. you know what would be really great? a thyroid pump. my former roommate is a diabetic that has been on a pump for about a year. it's basically an electronic pancrease, putting out small increments of insulin into her system throughout the day and when she eats, she gives herself a booster dose. think how nice it would be to have an electronic thyroid, gently releasing appropriate thyroid hormones throughout the day into your system! perhaps one day, researchers will become interested enough in hypothyroid to work on something like this. rachel. --- Debbie W wrote: > I wonder if Armour could be compounded to be timed > released? Guest guest
Someone should come up with a skin patch made of Armour! I bet they'd make millions ... we wouldn't have to worry about swallowing versus sublingual (we would absorb all the calcitonin and parathyroid and all the other goodies) and we'd get a continuous amount of thyroid hormone, like the healthy thyroid provides. Say, who would like to suggest this to Forrest????? Oink. -----Original Message-----From: Jan Sent: Saturday, September 25, 2004 4:00 PMTo: Texas_Thyroid_Groups Subject: Re: Re: Suppressed tsh In general, compounded thyroid meds do not have a good track record. Guest guest
Just try to go slow, Courtenay and have patience. If you try 30mg more and it seems too much, try 15mg more. Better yet, maybe 15mg more now, 15mg more in November? Best of luck to you! -----Original Message-----From: Courtenay Sent: Sunday, September 26, 2004 1:25 AMTo: Texas_Thyroid_Groups Subject: Re: Suppressed tsh I am pretty certain that my endo will go as high as fifteen before my next appointment in November, maybe even 30.. Up until now, I have been seeing him every four weeks, as my symptoms were so intolerable. During the worst of it, I had a standing free phone appointment once a week. As a safety net, he said that I can always, always, schedule an earlier appointment. Thanks for the advice. What is still incredible to me is that at 2.5 TSH, when I was on Levoxyl, I felt as though I was going to die. And at 3.5 TSH on Armour, I am fatigued, but if I pace myself, I can do a variety of things at home. Even when I was in a "perfect" range on Levoxyl, my family was having to do practically everything for me, I was that sick. Thanks for the advice; it's much appreciated. Courtenay. Guest guest
Well, that would be neat if a good natural thyroid med could be geared to act like our original thyroids did. That would be a miracle, as far as I'm concerned. There is a slow release T3, isn't there? Yet, it would have to be made to release T4 at certain intervals also, as well as the T3. Here's my idea---It could be one like one of those dosage forms of another drug that is inserted under the skin, and set up to release tiny amts at a time into the blood stream. Hey, why can't that be done now by science, come to think of it? Re: Re: Suppressed tsh > I wonder if Armour could be compounded to be timed > released? Guest guest
You can have either of those forms prepared for you by a compounding pharmacy. I do not think Forest has any interest in developing new delivery systems for Armour. They can sell all they make as it is.leoyellowrose wrote: (I posted this earlier but I don't know why it didn't show up!) Guest guest
I find that taking my thyroid meds with food slows down the absorption enough that the effect is very smooth, even though I only take them twice a day. I never experience a spike, and I only occasionally get a slight slump just before my second dose. wrote: Well, that would be neat if a good natural thyroid med could be geared toact like our original thyroids did. Guest guest
I know they'd make a killin' on that! Constant thyroid hormone delivery system. Then everyone could fight over the patent just a few yrs later, but it would still be a miracle. If it was computerized, something like a pacemaker, to slow down or stop when not needed, then start and stop automatically during different times of day and night, I think it would make the world news. I'd join the study, that's for sure. Re: Re: Suppressed tsh You can have either of those forms prepared for you by a compounding pharmacy.
