Guest guest
There are some doctors out there who will say if they can't see pressure on a CT scan surgery is only for cosmetic. Well I have two things to say about that. One cosmetic surgery is to enhance something that was normal to begin with. Reconstructive surgery is to fix something that had been damaged due to birth defect, trauma or disease. Just because there is room now does not mean that there won't be pressure in the future and as for seeing it on a CT scan that is just not true. They would have to put a monitor in the head to know for sure. You are 100% right I have talked with parents whose children are older and never had surgery and the children are having trouble adjusting. I have a story about a mother who chose to that her son have surgery at nine years old because he was so unhappy. For some of you that don't know we are talking about craniosynostosis not plagiocephaly. I have started back to work and it has been soo difficult leaving my little Hannah. Eventually, after the training is all over with, I will only be working every other weekend so that we don't have to deal with baby sitters or anything, but in the meantime, I have been training for the last 3 weeks, 3 days each week and today I just found out that I have to train for 4 more weeks!!! Oh, I hate being away from Hannah, I feel like I'm going to miss something, and I miss her so much. We have been fortunate in that my mom and my mother-in-law (from Seattle) have been watching her, so it's not quite as bad as leaving her with someone we don't know well or someone that doesn't know her, but it is still hard, especially when my mother-in-law comes to watch her. She does such a great job, but when I get home from work, I just want to be with Hannah and I have to entertain her because she stays with us while she is here. Okay, there I vented to you...Anyway, today Hannah had an appt. with the metabolic/genetic disorder Dr. They said that nothing was wrong with her, but we had to get another blood test to check her amino acids just to be sure. The Dr. said she's positive that her amino acids would be fine, and Hannah doesn't have any symptoms that a child with any syndrome has. So that was a bit of some good news for us today. Next week we FINALLY have an appt. with a neurosurgeon at OHSU. Ya know, when they say that the surgery is for cosmetic reasons if the skull is not inhibiting the growth of the brain, what are they talking about???? Do they not think that a kid with a funny shaped head won't have mental and social problems from people looking at her funny and/or treating them wrong??? Grr, the met/gen Dr. told us that and it made me sooooo mad!!Thanks for asking how Hannah is doing Kendra, sorry you got such an earful - ha!-Kindra and Hannah (2/12/00)>From: & Kendra <kbgarv@...>>Reply-Plagiocephalyegroups>Plagiocephalyegroups>Subject: Re: How's Hannah?>Date: Wed, 23 Aug 2000 23:07:42 -0600>>Kindra:>>I meant to ask earlier, how is Hannah?
