Survived the Casting w/Great News!!

Hi everyone!

We just came home from Lubbock after getting checked from the

neurosurgeon. He said Connor's CT looked great and was ready for a

helmet. It looks just like a football helmet. Anyway, he said he

has

used them for 8 years and done lots of research and said that wearing

them 8 - 10 hours a day does just the same improvement as wearing

them

23 hours a day. We will only go back to him in 2 months to see the

difference. We went and had the casting done and Connor laughed and

smiled through the whole thing. I had made myself sick with worry

for

nothing. I'm so glad that he won't have to wear it all day. With

having twins plus two other children all under the age of 4, this was

a blessing in disguise!! We were also told that the cranial tech.

person will be coming to our hometown (Roswell,NM) every two weeks to

check Connor and his helmet. I guess those prayers really do work!!

I know it's not the DOC-Band but I'm hoping it will do the job just

the same. It's going to be Baby Blue so I'm open to any great

suggestions for decorations!! Thanks to all and will let you know

how

it goes when we get it in 10 days.

Tammy:

I am glad your casting went well. I have learned that both helmets and the

DOC band can work if they are done by people who know and care about what

they do. Best of luck with Connors growth.

I couldn't help but reply when I read about your family size...we also have

four under the age of 4 1/2 (including a set of twins). Our oldest girl

will be 5 in December, our next girl just turned 2 on 8/30 and the twins

were 1 on 8/19. They boys are identical, born 2 1/2 months premature and

had tort and plagio from restricted uterine position and growth.

We are about two weeks away from the end of our treatment with the DOC band

and the results have been wonderful!!

I know about the hectic life of raising this size family - and with this

type of complication on top. If you ever want to talk, please feel free to

write. I often find having someone who can relate helps on those

frustrating days!!

We used stickers to decorate 's band. We changed them every week or

so to make it fun. With baby blue maybe you could find fish, shells, etc

and make it an aquarium. We had some with scuba divers, shells,

waterplants, etc.

Take care and best of luck,

Sue Luck
