Guest guest
HI , Yes, it can be difficult if a child does not eat well (or are too young) as far as whole foods are concerned. I would ask about a supplement. Fish oils are excellent, however flaxseed and/or oil is also rich in Omega-3 (as are other oils and foods). If your doctor gives you his/her blessing about a supplement try to find a very good one that uses cold-pressed organic oils. I use cold-pressed canola oil in my every day cooking and olive oil for salads and in pasta and other recipes. You have to be careful with supplements. There just are not enough studies done on them like there are on medicines (at least not in the US). I still think that if you can get the EFA's in by whole foods, then that is a better option, but do ask. If a doctor gave me his blessing I would try it in a small dose. Remember that EFA's are fat soluble and are processed through the liver. I have heard that people with diabetes should not take fish oil supplements because of the high fat content, however, they can consume fish for the EFA's. Everything in moderation. Good luck~ Autumn (Mom to Mark Cd5-Cd19 PID and )
