Dear Ashok,

Little did I know that my forwarded mail would remind you of malli poo and

kanakambaram, and pattu paavadais and adais!

But I do like this moony romantic side of yours..... Tell me, does Renuka

fit into your long oiled hair dream, at least sometimes?!

Keep dreaming!

Dear Ashok,

That one must have really touched your heart. At least you have a

'normal' name like Ashok. Imagine what Muttu must be going through

everyday!! Our condolences are with you Muttu!

Anshu's article gives us an insight on why the film industry is

dominated with North Indian (read Punjabi) males, but South Indian

females (South here includes Maharashtra). Besides the name, it is the

trade mark pot belly with a short stature and dark complexion, which

is a great turn off in all South Indian males. However, in the

females, it is the south aura of homeliness and family orientation

which puts the female ahead in the reckoning, besides, of course, the

two large assets*.

Kishore Shah 1974

*I'm talking about the large, expressive, South Indian eyes

(Meenakshi). (*Oh, those too!)

Dear Tirunelveli Thoothkudi Thillainayagam Ravikumar,

If- after being in possession of such a highly innovative and original name as

yours, you haven't had a chance to experience the lows of a non-existent

love-life as our IIMA Southie friend did........you are amazingly lucky!

Ignore that forward of mine, and don't even try configuring the nuances of

elaborate nomenclature. It might just bring a furrow on your brow!

And dear TTT Ravikumar, if even after my not-so-subtle warning, you feel

compelled to unravel the coded message between the lines...I suggest you consult

dear old Ashok Bhaskar....who has been transported to an altogether different

planet after reading that mail!

Wishing you loads of luck in your dangerous venture.

Dear Anshu,

Can you complete this title sentence of your forwarded article ?

" Why the southie male doesn't get any ......WHAT ??? I thank Ashok

for responding my query. If this is a forwarded article, I am curious

to know who the actual author is. My first cousin and my distant

brother-in-law have qualifed as MBAs from IIMA , Ahmedabad. They did

not experience anything equal or more to what was mentioned in that

article. Dear Anshu, do you believe what was mentioned in that

article? If you are not a south indian , I am sure you will.

We as well as a few others can argue for years over this subject and

still a conclusion will never be reached. I believe that this article

and the message that it conveys is a bucketful of nonsense. And I

strongly protest against these kind of junk literature. If there

are " southie males " (as they have been termed)in this group who have

accepted this article as a matter of fact, I am one who hasn't. If

Ashok has been been transported to another planet, I am sure he will

figure out a way back after reading my response. I am still on planet

earth , alive and kicking .

And Anshu , I still do not have a furrow on my brow. It will not

appear even if you or the actual author try as hard as you both can.

Regarding the North indian - South Indian divide, the truth is that

this is the understanding of an uneducated uncouth human being,

regardless of whatever part of India he or she is.

Assuming a neutral stand, there are good as well bad things about

North, South, East and West Indians. If a villager talks about it ,

it is acceptable. If we talk about it on this e-group, What can I

say, it's a shame. I am not instigating anything. I will change my

stand on this only if the original author of that article admits that

he or she was trying to write a joke or a humourous paragraph. If

that is the real truth behind all this ruckus, I pity the poor sense

of humour......period.

Dear Ravi,

To me it seems like sincere outpourings of a frustrated soul in a cosmopolitan

campus...while every bit might not be true ...there are a lot of things that are

/ could be true..

Obviously there seems to be a huge generation gap between us and these twenty

somethings !

Plus the huge cultural shifts India seems to be going through ...

Getting laid before getting married seems to be high priority in these

youth....can't believe this is in India...!!

BTW the south including Chennai are going through major cultural

transformations...which means parents are not going for the long names etc etc

While this guy seems to be frustrated with his identity I have always been proud

about my south Indian identity...as is.

Renuka still makes fun of me - that she can't comprehend how she fell for me -

she makes fun of me oiling my hair to the point of having a oily forehead, my

clothes etc etc in my (first)MBBS days.... :))

Dear Ravi,

Cool it!

I'm sure that the article was meant to be taken with a pinch of salt.

No one is doubting any capabilities of the southie male, virile or

otherwise.

Relax. Take a deep breath. Look southwards. Admire what you see. And

then carry on.

Dear Ravi,

Here is the complete title:

Why the southie male doesn't get any...

....laughs out of this article.

The answer is obviously because he does not like to be the butt of a

joke!

Well, who does? But a true sportsman is one who can laugh at himself

as loudly as he can laugh at others.

So, if you have laughed at or forwarded any joke regarding Sardarjis.

If you have SMSed Bush jokes. If you have smiled at my article about

gays. Remember that there will always be some Sardar, Bush or gay

protesting somewhere that he can't see the humour of the situation!

That is but natural and I do not blame you.

However, if everyone stopped writing about any community or group

which could be hurt, our jokes would dry up to a small trickle! Not at

all a healthy situation! (In fact laughter therapy is supposed to

increase your longevity!)

Now my only hope is that no gay person writes an equally angry letter

to me. Then I'll use Neeti's trick. I will splutter and stutter and

say, " No speakeee English! "

Bye, and KEEP SMILING! That's an order! (Haso yaar)

Kishore Shah 1974

PS: Bravo Ashok, for being sporting enough to take the joke in your

stride.

Dear Kishore and Ashok,

I am waving a white flag !!! err..... a white lungi.

In a lighter vein, kindly allow me to complete the title. Why the

southie male doesn't get any..... chicks, broads or dames....... OR

Why the southie male doesn't get any ......veneral disease.

Please excuse me for getting a bit naughty.

Let me present a little southie info.

1. Usual forehead appearance : White stripes with a sandalwood dot.

Advantage : Easy to identify during roll call

Disadvantage : Easy to identify if the police is after him. Also

a fine presentation to be the butt of all jokes.

2. Comfortable dress wear : A banian and of course a lungi.

Advantage : Good ventilation at the ground floor as well as the

basement. Prevents fungal infection and unplanned

manouvers ie. scratching.

Disadvantage : A moderate gust of wind can easily lift up the

lungi leading to an accidental exposure. The

persons who witness this are led to believe that he

is flashing.

3. Favourite turn on : Juicy Mangoes and a Ripe Jackfuit.
