Gretchen,This kind of alpha is often slow (peak below 10 Hz) as well. Some options for training might be to Squish 8-10 or the full 8-12 wherever the difference between where the alpha " should " be and where it is are greatest. For example, alpha in the front and alpha on the left would be good targets. You could also do a simple 1channel one inhibit at a site which looks particularly high. Some clients will respond better to a 1C 1inh (8-12), 1 rew (15-20). Try these with eyes closed.

Of course, if this approach is accurate for a specific client, then we must remember that the alpha is there for a reason. It's " wrapping up " the emotional pain in thick layers of cotton. Just unwrapping may not be such a hot idea. Make sure you have some idea where the trauma itself resides (hot temporals? strong reversals? etc.) and train that as well. That is more likely to result in the client being " able " to bring down the alpha.

Also, turn off the eyes closed and task in the histograms and look at eyes open only graphs. Is the alpha still dominant there (taller than other frequencies)? If so, training it down with eyes open may be easier (and more natural) for the client.

Pete

I was just re-reading a very informative post you made around 9/10, discussing alpha patterns of all sorts.

You mention that way too much eyes closed alpha (so much so that it dwarfs other frequencies), can be associated with trauma history, and can develop into somatic issues.

How does one address this, with neurofeedback?

I have a client with severe trauma from a year ago, who shows this pattern in central, parietal and occipital regions.-- Van Deusenpvdtlc@...

Hi, Pete -

Thanks for the help!

The high alpha levels are just in eyes closed state, and don't exceed everything

else so much eyes open, except at Oz, which, I would think would be okay. This

client has been sleeping excessive amounts, around 18 hours a day.

The temporals are " searing hot " in both beta and high beta, and there are

marginal reversals, but not strong.

So, we will probably try a few protocols, starting with temporals, and see what

works.

Thanks!

Gretchen

What is the other energy technique you used to bring down the Alpha?

Like EFT I'm facinated by these techniques that seem to modulate

brainwaves.

Thanks,

Mike
