A big Hello to Aastha `90 and Ram `97.

It looks like everything's going according to schedule for The First

UK MGIMS Meet. Boy , am I excited ! I am also sure that this meet

would be great fun. Dear Saranya aand Ayesha, any specific dress

code ? My guess regarding the venue -- either Oxford or Sheffield.

Wherever the venue is, we need not worry regarding directions. There

is a website named greenflag.co.uk --- Just type in the starting and

the destination postcode. Lo and behold ! you will have a step by

step direction accompanied by a map. To locate a place , use

multimap.co.uk

PS : This is not an advert !!!

Ayesha and of course Aastha?? I woudl love Oxford personally- less travel time

but am game for any place that makes it easier for the organisers.

To all UK MGIMS alumni,

Kindly get in touch with Ayesha. Her tel. no. is displayed in one of

her previous messages.Or e-mail Saranya. I hope I don't sound

pushy.....But earlier the better. Because booking arrangements for a

place can be made. October may turn out to be a crunch time if all

good places are booked. Regarding time of the meet, it should not be

a problem. It need not necessarily be lunch time, as Sadhana has

mentioned. I have driven to London a couple of times and it does

take a good 4 hours to get to M18 (Sheffield / Doncaster) from the

South, especially on a weekend. Are you all happy with the date ? I

presume Ayesha and Saranya hear a " YES " ......... Depending on the

arrival time of our MGIMS alumni crowd, the time can be amended to

anywhere between 1400 hrs to 1700 hrs. Ayesha has been working hard

to get in touch with everyone here.It seems that many people, listed

on the MGIMS UK Alumni ,do not check their E-mails regularly.Ayesha

has e-mailed to quite a lot of people but there was hardly any

reply. So please folks, if you contact her it will be of great

help.Don't forget to mention your ETA ( Expected Time of Arrival)!!

Regarding the date, 23rd October Saturday is tentative. Lets all go

by general consensus ,regarding the date. I cannot emphasise more on

the importance of verbal communication. Once our Organiser has a

confirmed list, a statistical analysis could be done to fix a date

as well as a time. One more thing , a quick guide to reach Sheffield

from various directions.

1)From South : A1 is the best. So its A1 - A57- M1 junct 33.

2)From Birmingham, Coventry : M6-M42 or M6-M69 -- M1 junct 33.

3)From West : M60 -- M67 -- A628---A616---A61

4)From North : Lake District/ Glasgow : M6 - then join from west

route.

5)From North : Edinburgh : A1 - M18 - M1 junct 32

6)From Leeds : M1 - junct 33

7)From East : M62 - M18 - junct 32 - M1 junct 33

Personally, If I was travelling from North, I would prefer a train

journey. Sheffield is one of the North South mainline junctions. So

plenty of trains available, even on a weekend. If you are driving,

you'd better install a radar device !! What for......??

Thanx for the directions, but ...

From London, I think M1 is the best and the shortest with no speed

cameras. When we go to Harrow/ Wembley, we join M1 at junction 4 or

junction 5. It takes around 3 hrs driving at a speed of 75 miles an

hr.

A1 is definetely a longer route from london to sheffield than M1

becos A1 is more to the west. I have checked it with Great Britain A-

Z road map and also with www.greenflag.co.uk.

Full points to you , Ayesha.

The directions given were based on my personal driving experiences.

M1 is faster, but very very unpredictable regarding when you will

get stuck on the motorway. When you are stuck on M1, then you remain

stuck on M1 for hours and hours. A1 , though it may be longer, is

pure driving pleasure.Traffic is much less compared to M1. If you

are aware of where the speed cams are, then you can cruise on A1 . I

have never seen vehicles stalled on this road. The A1 is more

towards East (age, borough, Nottingham, Grantham), and

not west. You can check the maps again. It extends right upto

Edinburgh via Leeds / Newcastle on the east coast. M1 is central

and M40-M6 is west.

Yes Ravi u are right..that's what I wanted to write..EAST..but by

mistake I wrote WEST..

U have a point there..M1 can be troublesome with long tail-backs

but usually on Friday evenings, Monday morning office rush hours and

on bank holidays.

But whatever ur prefreerd route, pls check with the traffic and

travel news on the radio, b4 embarking on the journey.

I DONT CARE IF U COME BY FOOT, CAMEL, HORSE, SHIP, AIRPLANE, JET OR

HOT AIR BALLOON..BUT PLS COME AND PLS LET ME KNOW IF U ARE COMING.

A1 is definetely a longer route from london to sheffield than M1

becos A1 is more to the west. I have checked it with Great Britain A-

Z road map and also with www.greenflag.co.uk.

Re: UK MGIMS MEET.

Thanx for the directions, but ...

From London, I think M1 is the best and the shortest with no speed

cameras. When we go to Harrow/ Wembley, we join M1 at junction 4 or

junction 5. It takes around 3 hrs driving at a speed of 75 miles an

hr.

Dear Ayesha,

I have informed Suresh and Agam (1985) today about our meet.

He will give you a call soon. Let us leave the date and venue for

open discussion from our UK alumni, like Aastha has mentioned.

General Consensus sound good to me ie. vote of the majority. So

please , this a repeated request to all our folks in UK to get in

touch with Ayesha, so that a date and venue can be decided

according to what the majority prefer. To be more truthful, the

organiser's job is a difficult one. Its not the same as arranging a

picnic to Mahakaali dam or Bhor Dharan. If the majority vote for

Leicester, then the venue needs to be booked quite early. We all

know that Leicester is a small India within the UK. Everyone will be

celebrating various functions & religious festivities. If we get late in

deciding the date/venue, then all the good places are bound to go

for a six. If its not Leicester, then the organiser + you can decide.

SO:

DON'T LET OUR EXPECTATIONS FALL,

GRAB THE RINGER,

AND GIVE AYESHA A CALL..

PS. Leicester has good punjabi food.

PPS. O' Saranya, Where art thou ?

PPPS. Which Batch in MGIMS has gone for the maximum

number of picnics, I mean the whole batch and not discrete

groups. ? Can anyone please fill me ?
