Guest guest
Amnesty, Thanks, I wish Ella would eat avocados! She is getting canola oil in the homemade fries I make, I didnt know olive oil was ok.....do i need a certain brand or kind? I will try frying eggplant, she likes oil I think...and salt some times she just licks the fries. Is it true in & out fries are safe? I sure hope so! Ever heard of juice plus? Guest guest
I don't think brand or kind matters...we use a lot of olive oil since corn oil is out for us, and I always worry about x-contamination with vegetable oil. Try frying everything! If she likes fried food, fry away! I knew a mom who breaded and fried all kinds of veggies, shrimp, fish, chicken, anything! I don't know about in and out fries, I don't eat any fast food except Taco Bell, lol. They have corn free foods... Avocados are out for us too, Rory's allergic Never heard of juice plus. Guest guest
what is of in and out fries? never to hear of that script before? Olive oils and other oils used in excess though can cause of weight gains so one needs to moderate like all things but it is of a better oil for th heart. I too am of a person who likes fried foods and salty crispy foods or spicey such as italian foods my issues is at some places finding good spicy foods I to like without the added cheeses to the dish such as love olive garden but have to be very firm to say NO DAIRY added to the food but often it can still come back sprinkled with cheeses LOL/ I to love their salads which does have dairy but I to not have them add any more to it because then it will be too much. Their salad often makes me to feel day dreamy but not aggressive. the husband often says when we to go out to eat I to just mid way begin to stare out and seem as if completely withdrew mentally from the place and begin eating much slower. If really hungry he to says I to be to hyper focus to the food alone and not want wany words to come to me until done to eat LOL and he to say when we go to dates it is of to share in words and he to gets confused because my brain tends to not connect but disconnect from him and the areas and only tend to focus to the food alone. I to tell him well cant always multi task everywhere can only do that in mom role. Sondra Sondra

Guest guest
I don't know if this is accurate, but as I was reading this last email a flash came to me that kids tend to lose weight the first few mos of gfcf but then stabilize. If I remember this correctly, the reasoning is their guts are getting " cleaned out " from the fecal matter and swollen intestines, along with the child literally feeling the withdrawl effects. As they begin to feel better, however, the appetite/weight tends to pick up. You could check with the gfcfrecipes board and ask if this is the case. used to be on the board, along with lots of others well-versed about the diet. Guest guest
Debi, You remembered right. Most kids on the gfcf do lose weight at first (are eating a lot less of the junk they were before, so most of the food being eaten is absorbed properly and not being wasted) and almost seem to " get worse " before they get better. This is especially true if done cold turkey. Most kids (or adults for that matter) feel more lethargic at the beginning. But, if you go cold turkey, there isn't much to eat until you figure the whole thing out. It's importamt to keep in mind while some people see immediate results, others also can take up to a year, and most find they are still unknowingly exposing themselves to the offending gluten in ways they didn't know. I did this with my kids back in 2000/2001, and we were like zombies for a long time and I lost nearly 20 pounds for the first several months. I will say, we were all far healthier, though. I did not get my annual bronchitis that year, my daughter's lack of attention improved drastically, my son's hyperactivity decreased, and the therapies they were in at the time were intensified due to the changes in their focusing abilites and we saw big improvements during that time period. My middle son had his chronic stomachaches and a chronically plugged nose and cough that cleared up 100%, and this was done from fall to spring in our house, and no one had even a sniffle. I needed medical proof though (the bloodwork wasn't enough), for the courts to force my ex to follow this intervention during his visitation with the children, so my daughter was tested for celiac by endoscopy (had to put all the gluten back in for a month prior to the test to be accurate), tested negative (although being retested over the next few weeks again, since it's been 5 years) and we have not been on it since, since there was no " medical need " for it, according to the attorneys and my ex denied all claims of difference, even when pointed out by teachers, babysitters, family members and therapists. Maybe someday, when medical proof can be obtained, e can do our best. In the meantime, we eat a lot healthier, but not the best we could be. I never heard the weight loss was because of fecal matter and swollen gut, but when you alter the individual biologcal chemistry of any person drastically, especially quickly, you'll have a letdown while your body detoxs. Sidney Baker is famous for writing about detoxifcation and an excellent speaker. Also, a healthier lifestyle usually means a leaner body...look at anyone who has had heart surgery and lives on a somewhat restricted diet afterwards. My boyfriend had a triple bypass a few years ago and no matter what he eats now, he cannot rebuild the body mass (and he was a prior power lifter, and heavy nto nutrition and eating " okay " ). Once your body starts eatng right, it will go through some " pains along the way first " . I'm not sure about simply adding fats and oils for weight gain, but a good nutritionist (try Braun on google.com, not the nurse, but the woman who has the nutritional business, and was a DAN! practitioner) should have training and knowledge in the specifics of a gfcf diet. The nutritionist I met with (before discovering Braun) for an hour at Children's Hospoital in Akron back in 2000 for help with this, handed me a Quaker Oats cookbook and highlighted recipes that had no wheat. She did not have a clue as to what gluten actually was, just showed me wheat free recipes, and I was not in the mood to train her! I needed help! lauren Braun, however, was a vital source to me and my children. She helped me to find things for the diet and gave realistic advice on hiw to to implement, and at that time, she spoke around the country on gfcf diets and implementation, and had offices in Beachwood, Akron and Florida. I believe she may be in Florida now, but she does have a website to visit. Also, gluten is hidden in so many things that people are unaware of (I have freinds with chidlren woth celiac in their 20's, and can tell you it can be found in drywall (paste from seams), postage stamps, playdoh, nail polish, prescription meds, Chapstick, most make- up, toothpastes, even 100% organic raisins (conveyor belts can be dusted with flour to keep the raisins from sticking), cross contamination from dipping a knife in a margarine tub that was used on regular bread, then applying it to gf bread, you need separate toasters, etc. I have found those are the unsuspecting places where parents have unknowingly still gotten gluten in their kiddos, then claimed it did not work for them. Cross contamination is the worst. Or they find it wasn't the gluten or the casein afterall, but some other completely different food or preservative or salicylate. Solid tsting and elimination doets need to be attempted and monitored very closely. and the ANDI website along with celiac sites are the best places for solid, documented advice. LIVING WITHOUT magazine is amazing at recipes and where to find products, too. Just my humble opinion. > I don't know if this is accurate, but as I was reading this last email > a flash came to me that kids tend to lose weight the first few mos of > gfcf but then stabilize.
