Guest guest
I have heard that Tums are not a good source of calcium. Anyone else heard this, and why? Not to mention it is very popular.
Guest guest
I hope they are a good source of calcium- my doctor has me eating 4 of these nasty things a day for calcium replacement- along with the two multi-vitamins I have to take daily! They taste lovely and leave a nice chalky coating all over your teeth and tongue- don't tell me I have been eating these things for nothing????? Guest guest
I don't think a comment from fifteen years ago, taken out of context, indicates any move on the part of anyone to make vitamins "prescription only."The Pharma companies are already in this business, big time: Abbott is Centra, etc.....They have no incentive to change the business model, and insurance companies would fight this every step of the way.I don't think "so called" supplements need to be by prescription, but it would be good if they had to document their claims. I'm not even talking about knowledgeable people with degrees in nutrition, to whom I listen. I am really concerned by the crap on TV, where informercials talk people into sending in big buck for useless products. On Jan 9, 2006, at 11:09 AM, PozHealth wrote:The method they proposed to address this was to make vitamins into prescription items, sold by drug companies. Guest guest
My personal opinion is that Centrum is just fine. The only problem I have with it is that it is made by Abbott, and I think people with HIV, or consciousness of any kind, should boycott that company due to their predatory pricing of Norvir. The other preparations your friend recommends are far more expensive, and of no known additional benefit. If you compare the milligrams of the ingredients in Centrum to Super Nutrition Super Blend or K-Pax vitamins, there is no comparison. The increased amounts of each ingredient in these make them far superior to cheap drug store brands such as Centrum. Also, I cant imagine anyone wanting to ingest the same thing they would wax their car with (Carnuba Wax), which is what Centrum coats its vitamin pills with, not to mention the other ingredients they include which serve no purpose such as dyes, starches, sugars, etc. And, why would Abbott want to produce a good quality vitamin which might be beneficial to health when they have drugs to sell you at super inflated prices that would treat your complications from whatever health problem you may have.
