PROVE: Nightline Botches Story, Write Them!

[This report on yesterday's Nightline vax program is from PROVE, a

vaccine education parent group (see previous FEAT Newsletter post).]

On October 14th, ABC News' Nightline featured a piece on vaccines that

reeked of CDC bias and was an insult to the families whose lives have been

put into a tailspin because of a vaccine gone wrong or because of threats

and harrassment for questioning a vaccine for their individual child. You

missed it on TV. The parts that frustrated me the most were the statements

by ABC News Medical editor Dr. Tim that there shouldn't even be a

debate on this, there is no scientific proof of causation for any vaccine

problems, and that for the sake of society that people shouldn't make their

own decisions about vaccines. This was very

uncharacteristic of Nightline, and they need to be brought to task to remedy

the lack of fair reporting and representation, especially in the live

discussion segment by their own medical editor.

On the positive side, I spoke to someone just a little while ago

At Nightline in Washington who agreed with me that the story was biased. I

told her our personal story, and she said they really needed to have written

accounts of personal stories. She has been in steady communication with the

producer and others and they have set up a special vaccine folder in their

email so they can research this. They strongly are considering doing a

follow up piece, but they need your stories ASAP. Ted Koppel, Dr. Katz,

and Dr. all came down really hard on Dr. Orient questioning her

integrity and accuracy when she referred to families who have been

threatened and harrassed for refusing a vaccine. Let's let them know Dr.

Orient is right on and ABC reproters are the ones out of touch with what

really happens out there!

Please everyone write in your feelings about the piece, but especially

Send your personal stories:

1) if you believe a vaccine hurt or killed your child and what your

experience was trying to get the reaction reported - also, if you have any

doctors or test results backing your suspicion of the link, make sure you

include reference to it.

2) if you have undergone harassment, penalties, or threats for not

following the vaccine schedule or questioning it - also, if you have any

proof or documentation of this, make sure to include reference to it.

3) if you were under pressure to vaccinate with a particular vaccine

and didn't want to because of a medical concern for you or your child, you

caved under pressure, and you or your child suffered as a result.

4) if the risks were not discussed with you by your doctor and if you

were not given any of the federally required vaccine information statements

discussing possible vaccine reactions.
