The Autism Autoimmunity Project

The purpose of the Autism Autoimmunity Project, a non-profit charity, is to

fund independent non-government /industry research addressing immune and

immunogenetic abnormalities in autism. The ultimate goals of the Project's

research are to fully define immune etiologies in autism; develop

appropriate

treatment options for individuals who have autism through autoimmunity or

immune system deficiency; develop mechanisms for prevention of immune-based

autism, such as infant pre-vaccinal screening routines for immune and

immunogenetic status. The Project aims to fun d further independent

research

by Dr. Singh and other top experts in immunology and gastroenterology.

Vijendra Singh, Ph.D.

Research Associate Professor, Utah State University, Department of

Biology/Biotechnology Center, Logan, UT; Scientific Board Member Autism

Autoimmunity Project

Dr. V.K. Singh received his doctorate from the University of British

Colombia, Vancouver, Canada. His post-doctoral fellowship was completed in

neurochemistry and neuroimmunology. Spanning over twenty years' experience

in neurobiology and immunology research, Dr. Singh studied brain diseases,

particularly infantile autism and Alzheimer's disease. He has authored over

a hundred scientific publications. Dr. Singh is a member of the American

Association of Immunologists, and the New York Academy of Sciences. He

belongs to several professional societies, including his name in the highly

prestigious The International Who's Who of Intellectuals and the American

of two private foundations: the Autism Autoimmunity Project in New Jersey

and

the M.I.N.D. Institute in California. A pioneer and an international

authority on autism autoimmunity connection, Dr. Singh is now committed to

finding the causes and cures for autism.

Wakefield, M.D.

Experimental Gastroenterology, Director, Inflammatory Bowel Disease Study

Group, Pediatric Gastroenterologist, Royal Free and University College

Medical School, London, Member Autism Autoimmunity Project

Dr. A.Wakefield, leads a team of eight medical and scientific researchers,

investigating a meta-hypothesis; that a complex relationship between a

genetic predisposition, and early environmental exposures results in immune

derangement and metabolic dysfunction. This primary sequence of events then

triggers an autistic disorder. Major scientific achievements over the last

decade include: original description of the vascular pathogenesis of Crohn's

disease; original description of thrombotic mechanisms in inflammatory bowel

disease; discovery of measles virus in inflammatory bowel disease; original

description of the atypical patterns of exposure to measles virus that are a

risk for inflammatory bowel disease; setting up UK's National Register of

Pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease; original description of the vascular

pathogenesis of enteropathy induced by nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs;

original description of intestinal pathology in children with developmental

disorder; " autistic enterocolitis " ; development of novel in cell gene

amplification technologies for virus detection in diseased tissues;

discovery

of measles virus in intestinal tissues from children with autistic

enterocolitis.
