Hi Alison and Margaret,

We are in Yorkshire too.

Hi Margaret

We're not doing SCD.  I've replied simply as you have

said you are in Yorkshire and so are we - I've not aware

of anyone else near to us doing biomed.  It would also be

good to know of anyone else in our region.  Are you in

touch with anyone else locally.

Hello, I haven't posted for a while but we

had a consultation with Dr

Yeoh at The Breakspear last week and she has

suggested we move from the

GF/CF diet (nearly eight years later!) to

SCD with my twelve year old

son and I don't really know where to start

.... other than here! Sorry

if this is a bit long ...

We had the GF/CF diet more or less sussed,

although as my son is

mainstream and very social so whenever he

went to people's houses or

away on trips, he would take HNI enzymes.

Most of the time he is doing

very well both in and out of school, but he

does have an ongoing issue

with weekly tummy aches and occasional bouts

of vomiting. Both issues

have decreased over the years, partly helped

when we took out

boiled/fried/scrambled eggs, too, but they

ARE still there - and often,

but not always, co-incide with times of

heightened emotions: anxieties

re SATS or sport event, and evn birthday and

christmas - when he really

is NOT negatively emotional!

He has been having CBT with his therapist

(he was on ABA for several

years but no longer needs their input) since

he started secondary school

last September but the anxieties continue -

although not at school

where he is much happier than at primary -

so I think Dr Yeoh is right

and it is worth trying the SCD. Howver, at

165cm and weighing just 45k

(and with hollow legs and doing various

sports up to eight times a week

- and that's apart from PE!), I can't

imagine how I will fill him up and

he not lsoe weight! My husband (a similar

build to my son) is an

insulin-dependent diabetic who runs so needs

LARGE amounts of complex

carbs, so a family change to all SCD is out

of the question - my husband

would quickly end up on the floor with

hypoglycaemia and

life-threatening fits - so I am,

understandably, anxious about how to do

this.

I am also not an experienced baker (having

been with a type 1 diabetic

for 20 years), so I really need the

easiest/tastiest recipes for bread

and muffins and any advice people have,

please, such as breadmachines,

do I need a yoghurt maker, should he still

be casein free (he's been

doing very well on goat's milk so far)! I am

up in Yorkshire and don't

know anyone here who is doing SCD but if

there is a specific support

group, preferably in the UK, I'd love to

know! Thanks for reading

this!

Yours, hopefully, Margaret
