That was funny.  It seemed to work well.  I never could use one with metal

blades but I got one with a ceramic  blade and it worked great.  I do like the

dial though and like the piece that takes things through.  I'd suggest you get

Alan a kevlar glove made for chefs who use these mandolins.  I did get a cut

the first time I used the one with ceramic blade. because it cut so well.  I

have only a top with little things to stick in but they come out.  Easier with

hands and go slowly and carefully near the bottom.  It is fun though to watch

Alan and his struggles.

  I did buy a kevlar glove  but then saw one I liked better at a local cooking

store that was all kevlar.  Two I got (hubby is leftie and I am a rightie) so

a set was great, have a rubbery backing.  Not a problem in using but is just

not necessary to be rubber. 

I have a ceramic veggie peeler, too, and that makes easy work of things.  I

love the ceramic and if I weren't this old I'd get ceramic knives too.  but I

have a perfectly good knife set.
