Guest guest
Hi Zoloftscrwd4life, Very good posting! I think this is the link between the placebo effect and Victor l's theory/technique of paradoxal intention that we need to use, even if it may be triggered by SSRIs. Anything that diverts from trying (and thus stopping!) should help, or stopping you ego/will from wanting to control (Yoga, running, being completely absorbed in whatever). My Zen teacher always cites this experiment where men with erectile dysfunction are devided into two groups. Half get sex movies: no response. The other half gets the same sex movies with in the top corner simple mathematical calculations that they have to solve. They show a response. The explanation given is that the will who is interfering by too much wanting (and thus stopping), is being kept occupied (deceived) by the calculations, so it cannot stop the erectile response. A simple method which is used to see if we stop ourself with our will, is to put a thin piece of paper around your flacid penis (glue ends together). Because at night (or if you do Yoga, running etc.) your conscious will is immobilised, and you will get an erection and know that you had one, because the paper ring will be torn. If you have " morning wood " , you know in any case that this mechanism plays a role.
