Diabetes Prevention Therapy in HIV: is it time to

consider?

Jules, I'm concerned by the rosi study. You really should read

" Overdosed America " by Abramson, MD.

I say this because in the Lancet editorial, the sentence I would have

highlighted is:

The relative risk reduction of rosiglitazone seen in DREAM was similar

to that obtained by lifestyle interventions2-5 and much the same as that

seen in two previous trials of the now withdrawn thiazolidinedione

troglitazone.6,7

WHY in the world would you think a drug that increases the risk of

heart failure 7 times is a good idea? When completely safe interventions

work just as well?? Lifestyle change outcomes can be improved in terms of

outcomes when counseling is included.

Drugs can be good--but this sounds like market positioning on the part of

GSK with no regard to health outcomes.
