My flutter valve came in the mail with a how-to video. It sure would have been

nice to have a real therapist to talk to and go over everything that yours did

with you. The health care supply company billed my insurance company $60.00 for

the flutter valve (that was three years ago). It seems like a pretty high

mark-up.

Just a matter of correction to a mistake I made when I wrote about the

delivery of my Flutter Valve. I said that the Therapist was from Incare when

actually the correct name of the service is: Lincare. They are nationwide

but not overseas at this time. Nona

nn.........Welcome to the group........I noticed you have a hotmail address......where do you live????? I got my flutter valve from the hospital.....when they released me they sent it home with me........it really does help when you have to do the therapy alone....its hard to do the percussion therapy alone.......so it really does help to have the flutter valve......:) sondra

Hi nn,

Welcome to the group. The pharmacy kind of laughed at me when I tried to get my

flutter valve. I had to call my insurance company and they had to authorize it

through a health care supply company. I had a prescription, so I didn't have

any trouble with the insurance company.

Hi nn,

Welcome to the group :-)) I don't use a flutter, but rely on the good old percussion. You would

think that the pharmacies could order one for you, but I guess a lot of them have never even heard

of the flutter (lol)! I was wondering if you could call your local hospital, physiotherapy department,

and ask if they can recommend a stockist. Anyway, good luck and I hope you locate one soon.

Best wishes

Bunny

I'm new to the group and am SOOO glad I found it as I don't feel quite so alone, knowing there are many others out there dealing with similar health issues. Anyway, my question is how did any of you get a flutter valve? Did you need a prescription or can you get it through a medical supply company? I was diagnosed with B. in January '02 and still have been unable to get one. My doc gave me a prescription but I was unable to find a pharmacy that would fill it!! My husband tries to do percussion on me whenever he can but we work opposite schedules so I would rather not have to depend on someone else if I could use the flutter valve myself. After trying for several months, I got frustrated and gave up but I thought I would try again. Thanks for any sugestions! - nn

Hi nn,

I understand where you are coming from, my husband is older and still

working. The percussion was taking its toll on his wrist. I got my doctor

to order for me a vibrator which I now use very well myself. Sometimes I

have him do the clapping. My flutter valve was same way - doctor had nurse

order from healthcare service - in my case Lincare. They are located all

around the United States and what I liked about them was that when the

therapist delivered the flutter valve not only did he show me how to use it

properly but gave me an education as well in re: to caring for myself and

about bronchiectatsis itself. Very informative and answered all my

questions. He then took blood pressure, pulse, saturation and left the unit

to record saturation thru the night - picking it up the next day. The

results he sent to my Dr. And is sending me a small card of all my meds to

carry in my wallet. Lincare has a very nice site on the internet, just

search Lincare. I am sure that all healthcare groups are good. But, you do

need a prescription for the flutter valve and in my case the insurance paid

for it.

Hope this helps some.

Nona
