Guest guest
Puppets DO count... double count I say.. I love puppets. try it try it! jkzJanet, I think this doesn't count, but today at Church, there was a meeting for a trip we will go on, and one of the things our pastor had us do was take turns with puppets and a theatre. He had tricks he taught us, about making them look like "people"- keeping them aligned straight, etc. Then, he showed us some films of mimes, and had us interpret what we saw. It actually reminded me of this thread! I was surprised by how much I could understand of the (completely non-verbal) communication. I think I shall try it! I guess, if it is supposed to be funny, I can learn to do it. : ~ ) Thanks to Janet and Anita for encouraging me to try. It's a great idea! The whole skit was very very well done. I was the only one there who knew this boy was AS because I knew his grandmother (who brought him) . He was kind of eccentric, talked loud , was impatient... but everyone loved his acting. Try it, you'll like it ! jzk"On the flip side, I would love to learn more about reading NT feelings, and feel that most NTs grow impatient when I ask questions- like trying to assess how they are feeling. I am trying to learn to see a face, figure out what the person is feeling, and then apply it. It is like learning to drive a car all over again. I know I can do it- I just need a licensed driver (ie an NS) to take me out till I can pass the test...so to speak. This is my being "just plain stupid"- but I am trying. Any great suggestions for help? I know I can ask a few friends an occasional feeling. It feels like going out driving once a month, and trying to get a license that way- if you can imagine any teenager who would have done that, and not felt frustrated.", While reading the above it occurred to me that perhaps you may wish to enroll in an acting/drama/theatre workshop. Many dramatic exercises are geared toward facial expression (emotion) coupled with a script. There are improvisation workshops as well, where students are asked to act like a train and couple a statement with a facial expression. An example would be for the instructor to ask someone to play a euphoric person. They would create a euphoric face (huge smile, mouth wide open, eyebrows raised high) and offer a line while in this pose, "I won the lottery!" This example might be obvious, but these theatre classes are known for portraying subtlety in very distinctive ways.I don't know whether you'd be comfortable participating in such exercises, but perhaps you could speak with the instructor or director and advise them of your desire to learn to associate different emotion with facial expression and how to identify tone and cadence with emotion and expression. The penultimate would be for you to reach a point where you could participate a bit too!Just a thought :-)Regards,AnitaBe a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo!
