Guest guest Posted February 14, 2008 Report Share Posted February 14, 2008 Anita, The reason the smell, taste and feel of soap, toothpaste etc is relevant is because of many of us having heightened senses makes it more than just dislike. I get ill from the smell of many products. (Ill = headache, nausea) If your husband is as resistant to change as it would seem from reading your posts then possibly he is not even aware of this and/or is unable to express it. He may even assume that all people experience this and that you are pushing him to try these things even though they make you sick as well. (Not saying he does, just a suggestion) I have heard other AS people speak of various sensory things causing physical pain. (Like sound, visual input)This is spoken of in various books on AS/autism as well. Some AS people have extremely sensitive sensory input others have extremely dulled senses some have both or alternate between the two. I happen to be one of the latter. When I first joined the list 6 or 7 years ago, there was a lot of conversation about this (sensory issues) but most of those people aren't on the list now or aren't posting any more.
