Below is information about this summer's Rasaboxes training.

it's a great opportunity to experience this amazing work!

through play, fun and performance training, you have the chance to explore Schechner's work of " embodied emotions " , increase awareness to body language and bodily sensations.

more and more drama therapists are using this technique in their work, so now it's your turn.

(besides, it's simply a great way to start the summer!)

as far as i know the date are set, but the hours are still undecided, so it depends on the participants' convenience!!

Training is offered in the RasaBoxes exercises and in work related to its practice. Participants develop their skill set in this psychophysical, sensory approach to working with the expression of emotion and with archtypal, energetic patterns. Description:RasaBoxes Week I is an introductory course for those new to the RasaBoxes exercises, and for those of us who want a refresher in the basics.

RasaBoxes Week II is a continuation and expansion of Week I. Participants will also develop solo and ensemble generated performance compositions based on the RasaBoxes material. Prerequisite: RasaBoxes Week I or at least three days of RasaBoxes training in any other workshop.

The workshops are designed to accommodate a range of skill levels and interests of professionals and students including actors, directors, performance artists, musicians, choreographers, playwrights and drama, movement, and dance teachers and/or therapists. Both weeks are taught by a Murray Cole.

What Are the RasaBoxes?

Devised by Schechner, the RasaBoxes exercises are based on ideas drawn from several sources including: Antonin Artaud's challenge that the actor be " an athlete of the emotions " , from the classical Indian treatise on performance called the Natyasastra, and contemporary scientific studies on emotion. The RasaBoxes exercises comprise a psychophysical, emotion-based approach that begins with finding physical form for basic emotional-energetic archetypes (rasas), through the use of body and the breath. The exercises incorporate sound, movement, relating to objects and others, language and text, and finally to scenework and the layering and scoring of rasas to create complex characters, to explore and compose scenes, to create choreography and entire performances. The RasaBoxes is an improvisational, rather than codified approach, offering specific tools and techniques for finding truthful, present, fully embodied emotional specificity through direct physical engagement. It integrates rather than separates acting, movement and voice, engaging the whole performer in one approach.
