Guest guest
Dear NYCCAT Friends, Have unspoken poems been filling your soul throughout the winter months? Is there a song in your heart that longs to blossom into full voice? For me, I am finding that my body wants to move with quiet presence, as if I were listening to a daffodil push into full bloom. While Spring can be a time of celebrating the early morning moments when flowers have suddenly burst open, Spring can also hold the mystery of slowly changing beauty in the dark night. As Spring buds here in New York City and I anticipate both glorious dawns and enchanted midnights, I am also excited to be planting seeds of creativity in the Studio for new growth. To usher in Springtime, I invite you to listen to your own blossoming spirit in the upcoming introductory workshop, Awakening the Creative Spirit: An Exploration of the Expressive Arts. If you are curious about the expressive arts and would like to experience this work, please join us on May 4 as we dance, sing and find sustaining images to carry us into the heat of summer. Whether you want to become more rooted in a deeper course of study in the expressive arts, would like to cultivate a personal exploration of artistic play or are simply seeking to water your own seeds of creativity, I hope you will join us as we open the door to the beauty of Spring! Rebekah Windmiller nycExpressive Arts Studio, Director Awakening the Creative Spirit: An Exploration of the Expressive Arts SUNDAY, MAY 4 3PM-6PM Workshop Fee: $40 Register by April 19 and Receive the Early Registration Discount: $25 Spring is a time of awakening passions, especially creative ones. If the winter months have tied your tongue or frozen your fingers, now is the time to thaw your spirit with the flames of poetry, art, dance and song. If you are curious about the expressive arts, this workshop is the perfect place to feed your imagination. In this unique work, you will explore the relationship between the various artistic disciplines and begin to blossom into the deep wisdom that this intermodal approach offers. The aim of expressive arts is to free your inherent capacity to create. Dancing, singing, storytelling, drawing and acting are natural human activities in which we all are able to participate. As children we freely used our senses to be playful, however, as we grew older, the permission to play was often lost. Expressive arts offers a way to recover the creative voice and bring the richness of the arts to life again. In a deeply respectful and affirming space, this workshop focuses on unearthing imaginative play without judgment or constraint. Open to all, regardless of artistic experience, our aim will be to open the possibility of springing into life with new songs, regenerating images of hope and touching our deepest affirmation in the presence of beauty.
