Hi : I had a swollen ankle but it did not look that bad. Have you seen a Dr? You may need to elevate your leg, ice and wear compression hose to get rid of that edema (swelling). I would not put it off. All that edema is not good for your tissue. I am coming of my third outbreak of 4 weeks now. I am 6'3" tall and weigh 185 pounds - I have a size 12 shoe - AS you can see from the pic - my ankle and foot were so swollen it looks as if it is the foot of a short fat person! (no offense anyone) I am experiencing this "fluid" type swelling every other day or so along with new EN lesions. I will elevate my leg, pop huge doses of ibuprofin and by morning the sweeling is almost gone - Yet by the end of the day it is huge again. HOW MANY OTHERS ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM? What can I do about it?Any type of meds I should know about that might prevent the

swelling? It is next to impossible fro me to get total bedrest - I am on my 8th week now of this EN flare up - How much longer until remission. I am anxious to live a few month without this mess! Thankyou Kelley39 Orlando Fl.

My flare up has gone away with prednisone for the moment (though it

appears to be coming back), but when I was experiencing it, my one

ankle was about the size of 2 ankles combined. Unfortunately, nothing

helped. Ice alleviated it a tiny bit. My dermatologist prescribed a

diuretic, but I couldn't take it.

I hope you find something that works!

Hi ,Yes, your ankle is badly swollen, but not much worse than others:

Album: KelleyI would suggest you try compression bandages when you are up. I wear mine all the waking hours. Also I have had good results from soaking the leg cold water to which I have added ice---first thing in the AM before I apply the bandages and again before bed after I remove the bandages. Use a trash basket like the one that fits under a paper shredder for the water. Make sure the entire swollen area is in the cold water. Everyone's flare is different in length. Mine are brief usually, but I tend to stay off my feet so it hastens recovery. The typical bout

is about 2 months. One needs to have patience with ENI'm sorry you are having a rough time, .Love,idio. EN '68Please enter Erythema Nodosum.........Thanks!Donation Information

My swelling was nearly that bad - and I'm 5'5 " !

Compression while sleeping helped me - I always found the swelling was

least in the morning when I got up from elevation.

Keep hope - it does go down!
