Guest guest
Hi; I need a little guidance in helping a person who has very low income find a referral. I worked with a 29 year old, low income man who entered into my research on " Anger and Self-Expression " study. He comes from a background of domestic violence and, although he is focused on controlling physically aggressive behavior because of its external consequences, he also seems to need help sorting through emotional distress. To my awareness, he does not as of yet have a conviction record. He also wants to be in a healthy relationship and fears that his anger may get in the way. He is interested in going to therapy, does not have an affinity for art-making but did make and comment a lot on his artwork. He is open to any type of therapy and it is my assessment that he would benefit from some kind of direct visceral, nonverbal expression, perhaps drama therapy in addition to verbal therapy. He has very low income and although I recommended recieving support through Medicaid, neither he nor I have dealt with the process of applying. I have considered referring him to IEA, but have not done so before nor do I know if they have a sliding scale. The other option we've briefly considering is recieving counseling or therapy through CUNY where he is planning on attending in the fall. I would like to provide him with some referrals and guide him through the process of getting financial assistance, if anyone could provide me some advice and feedback about how to do so. Thanks, nne -- nne BSW, Prospective MPS of Creative Arts Therapy Pratt Institute
