Guest guest
Kendra, I had e-mailed this suggestion to Kaycee privately, but since you put up a database I will make the suggestion openly. I think it would be a good idea to add whether or not the child was born with Plagio or developed it as a result of tort, back sleeping, etc.. The reason for this is that some insurance companies (like mine, United HealthCare)make a distinction and will cover the cost (without a fight) for babies that are born with Plagio, but not for babies that developed it. If you know for sure that your insurance company has paid in the past for children that were not born with Plagio, they will not be able to pull a fast one on you and say that the cases you are referring to were all babies born with the condition and that is the only reason why they paid. Just a suggestion. ) Sincerely, Jaya Dong > > > >> I was wondering if all of you could let me know who was successful > >> in > >> getting their insurance company to pay. Guest guest
Jaya: I will add it right away, although I think it's really ugly (on the insurance providers end) that blame should be placed in the hands of the parents for a baby's flat head!!!!! If a band/helmet will not be covered if baby isn't born with a flat head, then perhaps the bill should be sent to the pediatrician, or maternity ward nurses. After all, they supposedly provide us with all of the information we need to keep our babies healthy and happy. Maybe the AAP should be sucking it up themselves? Sorry, I'll step down now! Guest guest
Kendra, I totally agree with you! It is absolutely pathetic that there is a distinction made and that the insurance companies try to blame the paretns!! The worse thing of all is even if there is an intial flatness on the head NO one checks for that when the child is born because it is assumed that an abnormal head shape will correct itself. After looking at pictures and video of when i was born, we can see a very large flat spot on the back of her head. That flat spot is still present today and it is believed that this flat spot which is high and in the middle of the occiput (NO way that back sleep could have caused it because it is to high) is the reason why she has developed other flat spots and ultimately Positional Plagiocephaly. Additionaly to that I just skimmed through an article and although I have to read it fully, it looks as though the Dr. writting the article believes that all plagio babies are born with at least a miniscule flatenning that ends up being perpetuated by back sleeping. Which if you think about it makes sense because that would explain why some babies get plagio and others don't...........so if that is the case, can it be argued that ALL babies are born with Plagio that just worsens over time? So anyway, I agree with you and I am totally disgusted by the insurance companies right now as well as the Dr that examined i at birth and eveyone else on the planet that looked at her and told me that she was totally fine. I plan to submit clips of our home videos as well as some of our pictures to show the flat spot that was present at birth. I also plan to take pictures and show that this very large flat spot is still here today........but it is going to be very hard to rewrite history! Aw well, I plan to fight the good fight, and I will take this as high as I possibly can with the insurance company. Unfortunately the one person that I absolutely need total backing from, the doctor that perscribed the DOC band, will not help me any further....at least that is what his secretary says. I was told what we got is all we are going to get! And the letter we have is only a referral to Cranial tech that i needs DOC Band therapy...........but that is another story, just something else to add to the stress of all of this! I hope that everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving!
