Guest guest
I forgot to add that your child may be allergic to dust mites. Stuffed animals are known for harboring them. You can kill them by putting them in a ziplock bag and freezing them for 24 hours. Just a suggestion.
Guest guest
Dory - How about one of those clean air machines? Maybe a small one for next to the crib and room. Make sure your furnace filter is clean and changed. Also, do you think milk related allergy or food? Always soy? Just some thoughts. Good luck and no fun! Guest guest
Caroline had a runny nose for about four months. We tried everything and nothing over the counter helped. It kept getting dismissed by the dr. who said it was just " daycare nose " . Well, she was the only one at daycare with a constant runny nose so that was not true. I pressed the dr. to see if it was an allergy, and the dr. finally prescribed the allergy medicine Zyrtec. It's a liquid and she gets a half teaspoon every night before bedtime because it makes her drowsy (great side effect to have at bedtime!). It really has helped. I am not sure how long she will be on Zyrtec, but she's been taking it for 4 months, since she was about 6-1/2 months old. Maybe you could try that! Right now she has a cold so her nose is runny again, but I hope it'll be gone soon! Good luck, Dory! But doctors say we really can't do anything about it until he is older. We have tried Benadryl, Robittuson, Dimetapp - nothing dries up his little nose. Guest guest
Dory, I don't think Zyrtec is normally prescribed for children younger than two because it is more rare for a young baby to have allergies, but my dr. said her nasal passages were " blue " instead of red, which signifies allergies instead of a cold. You have to give it a few weeks to start working. Right after she started taking it she got a cold and her nose really started running. We took her back to the drs. office (a different dr. than before, though) and he said she had a sinus infection, which is also rare for babies. He gave her Amoxicillin 400 mg., one teaspoon twice a day for 14 days, and asked us to try Claritin liquid if we didn't like the Zyrtec. So I guess it's not too odd to be prescribed allergy medicine at her age if a different dr. in the same practice would also prescribe it. We decided to stick with Zyrtec (because of the drowsy side effect -- we were afraid Claritin might do the opposite, although the manufacturer claims it doesn't) and after she stopped the antibiotic the Zyrtec started working like a charm!!!! Check into it -- but if your dr. says there is some weird side effect or problems with long term use let me know. I don't think there is. I hope not!! Caroline's congestion was so bad it would choke her and make her throw up and then she would be kicked out of daycare for two days. Zyrtec has been a life saver. Guest guest
Amy - I was able to get in and see our Ped. at 4:30 today so I'll ask him. Last time we were there with the same thing - he said all I could do was try and allergy proof the room - he was around 4 months then. We bought the dust mite covers and everything but it hasn't worked. I am highly allergic to pollen, etc. and on the days he's especially bad - if we go outside he sneezes and sneezes. Also, he has been waking up every morning with swollen eyes? Zyrtec has been life-saver for me so I'm praying he'll let us try it. Guest guest
It's so horrible to see these little babies suffer with terminal runny noses and itchy eyes. I hope you can find some relief for your baby! I found that you have to INSIST that they do something and stop dismissing these problems in order to get the drs. to try to solve problems such as runny noses. When a runny nose goes on for months it becomes more than just a little inconvenience. GOOD LUCK TO YOU! -----Original Message----- From: Thedford, Dory [mailto:dthedford@...] Sent: Tuesday, November 21, 2000 3:01 PM 'Plagiocephalyegroups' Subject: RE: RE: HELP - not plagio related Amy - I was able to get in and see our Ped. at 4:30 today so I'll ask him. Guest guest
Dory, I know how bad runny noses can be, we have them now! Have you tried a health food store. I don't have a certain remedy in mind but they may be able to give suggestions. Belinda(Indiana)
