Guest guest
Pat, the attachement came through here! It was a Safe Wick Logo. The last email I got said it was from Maurice, addressed Cosmeticinfo--with an attachement, and I know it wasn't Maurice who sent it, but again, the virus spoofs email, but it was there. And your attachement came through. Is it an individual PC thing? kathie Test This is a test to see if the attachment gets cut off and if the rest of the email makes it to the list. Pat. Guest guest
> Pat, the attachement came through here! It was a Safe Wick Logo. Kathie, this is really weird because the list is set up to cut the attachment. I just double checked to make sure that nothing had changed and nothing has. I would still like it if you would send a file attachment, preferably a plaint text or word document. There is a slight possibility that the list would treat my mail differently because I am the list owner. This is a remote possibility, but I can't think of anything else. This should not be happening and I would like to make sure before writing to Yahoo. Pat. Peace, Joy, Serenity House of Scents tm. Guest guest
Pat, I did receive your attachment but I noted that it is listed as safewick.jpgBR at 103 bytes. As you may see from the original message below there were several references to <BR>. It should be noted that MS Outlook 2002, aka Outlook XP will automatically delete all executable attachments. This change was initiated with the or Love Bug virus several years ago. MS took a sledgehammer approach to stop virus transmission. MS did not do the same for Outlook Express. You are at risk using OE as an email client. Your best bets for virus protection are: Use current antivirus software; I find that Norton is the best. Use common sense. Look at the name of the file and particularly the file extension. If it is a double extension like jpg.scr then it is a virus. If you do get a virus on your system and you are running current antivirus software your software will automatically quarantine the virus code and protect your system. You can safely open the original message and examine the Internet headers to attempt to track the source of the virus. Your antivirus software will identify the name of the virus that you have been attacked. Always set your antivirus software to use heuristics. This is the old if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck then it must be a duck Heuristics is a process that allows your software to stop new viruses even before the signature for the virus has been identified. Following the above precautions you will not have any problems using a Wintel PC. If anyone needs more information please contact me off list and I will be happy to assist you in many ways I cannot specify on an open forum. Guest guest
I am on digest and received the attachment SAFEWICK.JPG. I read my mail in my email program, not online. The preview feature allows me to see the attachment, a round, black circle with a purple candle and yellow lettering and yellow wick. I did not open the attachment itself. -- Test This is a test to see if the attachment gets cut off and if the rest of the email makes it to the list. Pat. Guest guest
This is very odd! I can see Pat's attachment only as a huge lump of (binary?) code or nonsense symbols. It came like that in my digest in the body of his email, not as a separate attachment, and there was no attachment symbol. If I look at the message online in the archives, I can see exactly the same thing; a huge (many lines) lump of code, and again no attachment symbol. Does anyone else's browser show the message in the archives as a readable (uncoded) attachment? This does suggest that this is a mail client issue as says! But why does my browser manage to show exactly the same thing as my mail client? Guest guest
Thank you Sandy for asking, and also a couple who have written to me off list. I am having challenging times right now - let's just call it a " blast from my past " - NOTHING to do with my present life. This is THE most challenging thing I have dealt with in a very long time - maybe the most challenging thing ever. Lord I hope so, anyway LOL. I am right in the middle of it right now, and it's hard, very hard. But one thing I realize is that on a psychic level, I could not deal with the issue when it first came around, 33 years ago. Maybe I can now, because thanks to everything I have learned since I have learned about my AS, I have a broader frame of reference and a new " language " so I can finally " name " what happened, when I couldn't then. Sound mysterious? Yes, but I can't really divulge in this group. Only to say to U all that I have faith that in the end, this might be " all good " , that maybe there is a possibility for validation and closure this time. It's just that right now, it's hard and very time consuming and I will be working on this for the next 2-1/2 weeks. I'm sad as I had to drop a volunteer commitment, because of my time committment right now, but am grateful that at least someone was elected to the position tonight who seems enthusiastic about taking it over. HUGS to all, and thanks for asking Sandy and 2 others who know who U are... - Helen At 09:51 PM 5/20/2008, Sandy wrote: >How are you doing Helen?
