Guest guest Posted September 9, 2008 Report Share Posted September 9, 2008 Please see attachment and information below about our next upcoming very exciting presentation: The Westchester Art Therapy Association and the College of New Rochelle present: COMPUTER ANIMATION: NEW THERAPEUTIC METHODOLOGIES PROMOTING ADOLESCENT DEVELOPMENT Adequately engaging at-risk youth during the after school hours is an issue that plagues society. Between the hours of 3 and 6 p.m. the violent juvenile crime rate triples and experimentation with sex, drugs, cigarettes and alcohol peaks. At-risk youth not involved in delinquent behaviors are likely immersed in playing video games. If children are not lost to the street, they are lost to a machine. What to do? This workshop will present case studies to demonstrate how 3D computer animation, with its connection to video games and popular entertainment, is proving to be a powerful draw for adolescents. The therapeutic value of technology, especially those that are capturing the hearts, minds and bodies of our children, will be explored. Austin holds a BFA in painting from the School of Visual Arts, and studied architecture and animation at Pratt University, NYU, and Parsons School of Design. He holds a Masters in Art Therapy from The School of Visual Arts. The founder and program director of THE ANIMATION PROJECT, Mr. Austin, has two decades of experience at the professional level in the field of computer graphics and animation. Mr. Austin has taught computer animation at N.Y.U. and The School of Visual Arts and has co-authored Inside 3D Max4, a ‘how to’ text for the professional animator. Mr. Austin’s animation talents have earned him a Grammy nomination, plus two Telly Awards. Mr. Austin worked as a fine artist and his most recent shows were at PS1 Contemporary Arts Center and Exit Art in New York City. His artwork is contained in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art and C.W. Post College.
