Guest guest
Sorry if i repeat a question that had been asked and had been discussed. I googled fusion and it came back with fascinating results about Though Action Fusion (TAF). What i understand fusion to mean is that i value thoughts as deeds. If i look at my thoughts of anger at X through which i wish Mr X to be hit by the worst possible events and it so happens that Mr X experiences some setbacks - i'll assume that my thoughts had something to do with it. This i also do to myself in valuing my thoughts as prophesies of impeding catastrophes and dissasters that awaits me within the near (very near) future. I saw that more than 90% of all human beings experience intrusive thoughts. It is part of life. However, when i am anxiety ridden, i am shocked at these thoughts of mine (out of nowhere) and judge them to be bad or of a sign of impeding danger. I am shocked at myself for having these thoughts without the flexibility to simply see them as thought. I do not appreciate that similar or worst thoughts runs through the minds of some of my most respected people which do not make them bad. It is only thoughts, thats all folks. Rather than to allow these thoughts to come and go, i now decide that these thoughts must be banned, because they are bad or dangerous to me or of danger to other people in my life. From what i read it seems that if you realy want to make a thought to stay with you - ban it?! This is the paradox. Seemingly the Russians had a game through which people competed not to think of a white bear. If you think of a white bear you loose. Seemingly a game without winners! Is this the FUSION of fusion and avoidance, that sustains excessive anxiety as perceived from an ACT context? The schackles that imprisson so many people, including myself from which ACT facilitates the " prison break " back to life? Or, at least for me to get real through acceptance? Or, a combination of both and more?

I googled fusion and it came back with fascinating results > about Though Action Fusion (TAF). > Googling fusion will lead you to some interesting results, most of these will not be directly related to ACT because cognitive fusion is a term that was invented by the folk who developed ACT. Defusion is the process of changing the context of a thought so that you are no longer 'fused' with its content and convinced of its utter believability. For example fusion with 'I'm so stupid' would mean that you were completely convinced of its truth. Defusion, say by adding 'I'm having the thought that I'm so stupid' or by repeating the word stupid stupid over and over again, would mean that you were able to see it as just one more thought. Exactly as you point out, trying to suppress a thought leads to an increase in its occurrance, so trying not to think 'I'm so stupid' would mean you thought it even more! better explanation is in get out of your mind and into your life, hope this helps some.
