Guest guest
Hi, I have been reading the most brilliant books that I wanted to share with the group. The first is The Joy of Living by Yongey Mingur Rinpoche. For the first time in my life I finally understand the concept of 'emptiness' or 'the void' in buddhism. In this book Yongey descibes in such simple and straightforward language the nature of the mind, meditation and the the scientific link that proves that we can change the way the mind operates. Like a previous poster I too was always put off Buddhism by the 'emptiness' thing, thinking it was a bit bleak. But he descibes it in an entirely different way. Emptiness is no more than 'infinite possibility'. or maybe in ACT terms emptiness is the chess board or the bowl in which we hold all our concepts. It is vast and unlimited. The book is a great support in the work of ACT, mindfulness, meditation, Buddhism and the scientific link - all in simple language. Great.Check out reviews on amazon. The other book I have dound to be useful is Leap before you Look by Arjuna Ardlagh. It is as it says on the cover '72 shortcuts for getting out of your mind and into the moment'. Load of exercises to raise awareness and very ACT consistant. Also an intersting website www.livingessence.com On another note I am having some keyhole sugery in a few weeks time and I am scared, scared scared. I am watching the fear peak and rise, I am watching myself cling onto the cliff face, I am watching myself conjur up tragic stories - ah the mind! The little tinker! Anyhow, any ideas how I can approach this - the sugery is in the value of my health - but there is still a big part of me that wants to avoid. I am really scared of the general anaethetic. So I am being pushed off the cliff rather than going willingly - how can I turn that dial up when it keeps pinging down to zero! Thanks everyone - I love you!
