Guest guest
After much soul searching and even more avoidance I have finally realised I am cognitively fused when 'learning something new'. I have feelings of anger and frustration which cause me to suffer when all I am actually 'doing' is learning. When I have mastered that skill I return to my normal self (whatever that is). The point of my post is that it has taken a long time to reach this point and I was wondering whether there had been any work done on ACT and learning difficulties. Rgds Rob. Guest guest
Good catch. That usually slips under the radar screenWe do know that emotional avoidance inhibits learningand we have a couple of pieces showing thatACT can lead to an increased willingness to learn. For example in a study that just came out in the topclinical psych journal last month, therapists learned new treatments (not ACT)faster and better if they first went thru a one day ACT trainingLearning is often emotionally hard. You get to feel stupid, inept, uncomfortable, awkward, vulnerable, wrong, frustrated, etc. when learning newthingsIf you are unwilling to feel those things then you can't reallyfully go thru a learning process- S After much soul searching and even more avoidance I have finally realised I am cognitively fused when 'learning something new'.
