Guest guest
In the Madhyamika, which is the philosophical school that the Dali Lama follows, one can not rate anything. exemplifies this when he discusses the fallacy of critical thing in "Get Out Of Your Mind and Into Your Life". But the Dali Lama also distinguishes between ULTIMATE REALITY and CONVENTIONAL REALITY. We need CONVENTIONAL REALITY in order to function. If one empties the word bank completely, one could not function in any capacity. So we have words. Some words. Humans need PRAISE if it is TRUE. Otherwise, one is saying a lie. This thing about not rating makes us feel good in that we accept everybody; but it doesn't wash in CONVENTIONAL REALITY. In ULTIMATE REALITY, of course, we can not rate anything or anybody because one part can be compared to another part and that makes ABSOLUTES worthless. Modern psychology and self-help writers (I've reviewed 221 books along that path) take what feels good and sells books. We must take a larger reality. Laurel, to my WORD MACHINE, you are superior.
