Guest guest
I am so sorry for your loss. The most important thing is the Chief knew he was loved and didn't die alone. I know your loss because in the last 15 years we had to put 3 wonderful dog family members and 2 cat family members to sleep. We didn't want to--but it was the only way to end their suffering. I considered their presence in our lives  " a gift from " God " . But, God only lends us their company. Every loss inspired us to go to the pound and give another loving animal a home.  That (to us) is the biggest tribute we could offer to our canine and feline family members. Thank you for Chief's pictures. I have followed his epic journey through your emails and feel like I knew him. You did everything you could to restore his health, but sometimes God has different plans. You did the right thing to end his earthly suffering. Prayers are with you and Chief. Eileen Subject: Chief has passed away To: DimethylSulfoxide-DMSO Date: Tuesday, March 29, 2011, 11:25 AM  My little boy passed away at the vet in my Arms at 8:15 Tuesday the 29th of March, 2011. At 4.30 he started to bark and cry and I could not get him to stop. I tried everything to calm him down.He also had blood in his urine.By 6 pm I knew it was time to take him to a vet. We got there by 7.30pm and the vet examined him. She said he has crystals in his Urine, A tumor the Size of a soft ball on his spleen. She suggested trying steroids to get him to use his back legs and walk, but said it is unlikely it would help him. Everyone kept commenting on how Beautiful he was. My sisiter and I decided together to put him to sleep. He was in to much pain and I didn't want to see him suffer any more. The vet said I did very well to get him to 13 and a halve years old. I held onto Chiefs head and looked into his good eye as he passed away in my arms. I will have Chief cremated and His ashes put into an Urn where he can sit next to my mums Urn. Guest guest
Dear Uly, I have a big lump in my throat and tears in my eyes and I know exactly how you feel. I still mourn the loss of my GSD, Boss, as well as my own Mom, 2 sisters and brother, who have all passed on too early, leaving me alone in this world. But I still have my friends and am ever so thankful for the Internet. I kept on focusing on the fact that they were no longer suffering the ravages of their illness. Tho I was devastated, I will say that with time it DOES get better. I am also battling a long standing health problem which prevents me from doing things I love and have tried many many things without results, but I will not give up. I think sooner than later it would be good for you in many ways to pursue your idea of the foster guide dog puppy. That is a great idea of yours. Just my opinion. Best wishes to you. Guest guest
Uly, There are so many of us here with throat lumps and wet eyes, as we learn of your loss of Chief. I marked the 1 yr anniversary of the loss of my 4 legged child last week. Know with all your heart that there are many on this list who are holding you up in thought and prayer right now. Among all that life gives, are the many 'good byes' we must say. It's one of our toughest tasks. Feel the loving wishes sent to you right now and let yourself be strengthened by them. Guest guest
Hi Uly, I'm so very sorry to receive your very sad news. All of us with beloved pets know how you must feel and I hope this poem may in some way help you with your grief. Our thoughts are with you. B and the furkids Rotorua NZ If it should be that I grow frail and weak And pain should keep me from my sleep Then you must do what should be done For this last battle can't be won. You will be sad, I understand, Don't let this grief then stay your hand For this day more than all the rest Your love and friendship stand the test. We've had so many happy years What is to come can hold no fears, You'd not want me to suffer so When the time has come to let me go. Take me to where my needs they'll tend Only stay with me till the end And hold me firm and speak to me Until my eyes no longer see. I know in time you too will see It is a kindness you do to me Though my tail it's last was waved From pain and suffering I've been saved. Guest guest
Dear Uly, Look for your Chief in your dreams. He will come to you very young, vibrant, happy and just wanting to love you no different than in his physical body. I have had such experiences with my cats that passed on ... some very, very difficult passings. I have been there. I bought the book: Saying Goodbye to Your Angel Animals ... Finding Comfort After Losing Your Pet by & www.angelanimals.org is their organization where you can send them your stories about how animals teach you about love and have helped you or guided you ... in other words, they are Angel Animals here on earth. It is beautiful. I have 2 stories in a couple of their books. Also, there is an ancient sound that is the sound behind all the sounds, all the vowells, HU, or U. It can give you peace in your heart and balance. Much love and many good blessings to you and to us all, Janette > > > Uly, > I'm so sorry! > You're right, he's beautiful. > Now you'll have to go on with your life alone, well maybe with some family. > He had a good life, thanks to you. > Ray > > > Chief has passed away > > My little boy passed away at the vet in my Arms at 8:15 Tuesday the 29th of > March, 2011. > > At 4.30 he started to bark and cry and I could not get him to stop. Guest guest
Dear Uly: I hope that you are able to read you emails, as many have posted out of caring for you on learning of Chief's passing. Below, a clip that Janette wrote: " I bought the book: Saying Goodbye to Your Angel Animals ... Finding Comfort After Losing Your Pet by & www.angelanimals.org is their organization where you can send them your stories about how animals teach you about love and have helped you or guided you ... in other words, they are Angel Animals here on earth. It is beautiful. " May I add a few thoughts for your consideration in addition to what Janette wrote? Uly, you may not realize it, but you and Chief, through you sharing your story on this forum, your hope, your dreams, your passion for life, your hurts and disappointments, have all pulled back the curtain to show what a beautiful soul you are. In doing so, I suspect that you have no idea of the gift that you and Chief have given to some of the members here, including me. You have touched our hearts and reassured us that real, caring, compassionate human beings still do exist in the real sense of the word " human " . We live in a world with so much inhumanity that people like you are an inspiration to push forward with " good works' if I may use that term. Heartfelt gratitude goes out to you and Chief and all those precious souls like you who provide the needed encouragement for others to face the future with an absolute determination to help to build a better world, one by one. Best regards, Taffy
Guest guest
Taffy, You took the words right out of my mouth. I joined this group to learn more about DMSO, and I really did. But, even after I learned what I needed, I had to keep checking on Uly and Chief. It was with such a hopeful heart that I opened my mail each day. And even though there wasn't any real good news, Uly's love reached out and touched me time and time again. Uly, I am completely heartbroken for you. So is my husband and my mom, who I have shared your story with. I am sure that I'm not the only one to share your story, so please know that there are more thoughts and prayers for you right now than you know. Guest guest
Hi Pat, Thankyou for your kind comments. You are someone I look up to, Admire and respect. With out you I never would have known Chief had Degenerative Myelopathy. You have had a hard life too and show great courage in how you keep on going after all your losses and Illness. I would love to foster a guide dog puppy, but after looking at the criteria for fostering I don't think I would be accepted as I'm too sick to walk the puppy every day in shopping centers ect. It would be a wonderfull thing to do if I could do it as I am a long time supporter and donater of the Guide Dogs Australia. Guest guest
Yes I will be expecting him to visit at some point in the future. My mum had many dreams / visions of pets and her own mother visitiing. She even had my dog " Duke " the dog we had before Chief visit her. Duke did not visit me and I was very sad about this, but think about why he would visit mum more than me I realised that mum was there when he was born. Duke was born dead and mum did cpr on him for about 8 mins and he came to life. So he was probably thanking mum for that. I have always belied that Chief is a re-incarnation of Duke. Have a look at the photo's and tell me what you think. Duke: Chief: Thanks I will have a look into those books. They seem very interesting. Being a Rosicrucian I am very interested in and like to Practice Vowel Sounds. I also learn't the Hu sound in my Qigong studies. I did it for the 1st time in a long time last night. Thankyou for reminding me of it again. Also there was a lady on Coast to Coast am with Nory that was talking about the HU sound a few weeks ago. I'm happy to see more people promoting and practicing vowel sounds again. Guest guest
Yes I have recieved many emails...I will try to reply to them soon. Thankyou Taffy for the very Kind words. I am not aware that my story with Chief may have effected many here on the forum. If this has happened and some how Chief 's Story has helped someone here then my heart is truely warmed by this news. I can not take any credit for this tho as this is Chiefs Story and I am only a student of the Master " Chief " . I believe Dogs are our teachers and we can leanr a lot from them. I have learn't unconditional love from chief and to put others needs before my own. If you guys are interested in another dog who was a master teacher then go to Cesar Millans website (The dog whisperer) look up " Daddy's " story. Daddy is truely an inspirational dog and a dog who changed my views on so called dangerous breeds like pitbulls.I cryed so much when I found out Daddy had died as I realised we had lost another Master Teacher. Guest guest
I just want to thank all of those who posted with your kind words on the DMSO forum..I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. I haven't been able to reply back to all the post as there were more than I expected, but all your words mean't a lot to me. I wouldn't have been able to get through this experience with out all of you. The worst part of Chiefs passing was taking him to the vet an realising he would no longer be with me physically any longer and then the long Drive home. I actually couldn't breathe on the way home and I actually thought I was going to go to hospitial and it was the end of me too. The most peacefull part was when Chief was given the needle and he passed. I felt at one with him and the universe at that moment. He was a good and brave boy at the vet considering he doesn't like vets, becasue of when he was a puppy he broken 2 legs and probably associated a lot of pain with vets. He normaly snaps and growls at the vet...but he was completely calm. The vet we we had was wonderfull. I did not go to my regular vet as they were shut and we just found the nearest vet that was open and it was the right choice. She was a younger vet, a bit yonger than me and very compassionate and caring for Chief. She has given me hope that oneday I will meet a compassionate woman like her to have a realationship with as I had lost hope in ever finding a woman with such caring charcteristics like her. I will post a couple of more photos. I hope you guys understand by putting photos up that is is very healing for me, but I won't go overboard with the photos. This is a Picture of Chief that my mum cut out and edited a bit. My mum was a fantasic artist and a self taught computer artist: This is a picture of the plane I fly in Flight Simulator. The plane is a P47 Thunderbolt WW2 Fighter plane. The paint scheme I painted myself and is my Memorial to " My Mate Chief " ...it was painted last year. Two fun pics of Chief: Uly
Guest guest
Yes Chief was mostly German Shephard with some Golden Retreiver cross Breed. lol yes I know of the famous Rin Tin Tin :-) Yes Chief was very Inteligent and mum used to say he could have been a Police Sniffer Dog or Search and Rescue Dog.The only regret I have is I never took him out to walk in the outside world and for him to have Doggy friends. He was last walked when he was just under 1 years old. We gave him plenty of exercise in our yard, but I was too protective over him and was scred something would happen to him in the outside world. Since watching Cesar the dog whisperer I have learnt how to deal with my issues with taking him into the outside world. Unfortuneately he was too sick by the time I learnt these valuable lessons. If I ever get another dog he will have a very different life from Chief. I remember me and my sister used to play hide'n go seek with him and when he found us we would make a big boo sound and he would run off pretending to be scared lol he loved that game. My sister would also set up an obstacle course like the equestrian horses have in our back yard. He also used to jump onto the trampoline from the ground and stop...I don't know how he could do that as I couldn't even do it. His favourite game was tug o war...he was so strong he would pull me to the ground. He was even still playing tug o war laying down on his bed up till a month before his passed away...and still pulling me over. Uly > > Chief was very beautiful, Uly, and clearly very intelligent and alert. > > Forgive my ignorance, but was he a German Shepherd? When I was a kid, we had a GS; his coloring was standard Rin Tin Tin (in case his fame never reached Oz, RTT had a black back with a beige underbelly). I like Chief's coloring very much. > > Dianne >
Guest guest
Ok Thanks mate, I am going to include it in Chiefs Memorial Cabinate that I will recieve from the Creamation service. Hope things are well in good for you in Rotorua. I'm very glad you like the pics Cheers Uly > > > Hi , > > Thankyou for the wonderful poem...it helped me a lot. Guest guest
>Chief was mostly German Shephard with some Golden Retreiver cross Breed.< What a gorgeous mixture he was, Uly! >lol yes I know of the famous Rin Tin Tin < Great! I was raised on the adventures of Lassie and RTT, very inspiring to me as a kid! Lately tho, my life experience seems as ancient as the dinosaurs! >Yes Chief was very Inteligent and mum used to say he could have been a Police Sniffer Dog or Search and Rescue Dog.< A dog with a career! >I was too protective over him and was scared something would happen to him in the outside world.< I can understand that all too well. >Since watching Cesar the dog whisperer< I admire Cesar very much. I wish I'd known him when we had our dogs. >If I ever get another dog he will have a very different life from Chief.< When the time is right for you, I hope you will find the perfect companion. >I remember me and my sister used to play hide'n go seek with him and when he found us we would make a big boo sound and he would run off pretending to be scared< Some animals seem to have a true sense of humor. I like that in a dog! >He also used to jump onto the trampoline from the ground and stop...I don't know how he could do that as I couldn't even do it.< Sounds like he had brakes hidden somewhere in that lovely long fur. >His favourite game was tug o war...he was so strong he would pull me to the ground.< LOL! >He was even still playing tug o war laying down on his bed up till a month before his passed away...and still pulling me over.< My calico Petra used to love to fetch. Her favorite item was a Q-tip. Unlike some animals, she'd bring it back and put it in my hand. Not too subtle, but she made her point! She was still trying to fetch a week or two before I lost her. Chief sounds like he was a gallant dog to the end. I wish I'd known him... Hugs, Dianne
