Course Description - Managing in a New Rehab World

Course Goal: The goals of this course are to: (1) assist

rehabilitation managers in restructuring operations in response to

changing healthcare delivery systems and reimbursement structures (2)

assist the manager to gain perspective of Medicare, Medicaid

Prospective Payment, managed care organizations and how the systems

impact rehabilitation reimbursement (3) understand the elements of

the Balanced Budget Act of 1997 which affects rehabilitation and

accountability (4) assist the manager to understand the

rehabilitation niche in hospital networks, the value of electronic

information systems and how to strategically plan for the future

The course is designed to achieve an understanding of key

federal legislation, changing healthcare environments, rehabilitation

niche markets and how to strategically plan for the future of

rehabilitation.

Course Description - Managed Care Essentials

Course Goal: This information packed course presented by a popular

nationally known speaker on managed care will provide essential tips

and strategies to assist the therapist, manager and administrator in

developing a working understanding of practice and payment under

managed care.

Formal arrangements with insurance companies are necessary in

the health care delivery system of today and tomorrow. While the

government is advocating for patient rights under managed care they

also aggressively support the growth of managed care, in particular

through the Medicare system. This course will provide necessary tools

and information for the participants to gain an understanding of

managed care that will help them in approaching managed care plans

for contracts, understanding managed care requirements of providers,

and operating successfully in a managed care environment. Topics to

be covered include: why managed care, quality assurance & utilization

review, how to review a managed care contract and negotiate a

contract, documentation requirements, basic and advanced

reimbursement systems, managed care credentialing for clinicians and

clinics, and how to obtain referrals once you are on the network.

Course Description - The MDS: Inside and Out

Course Goal: To understand the importance of the Minimum Data Set

(MDS) in both clinical and financial terms; to use the MDS to best

represent the patient, to develop audit trails; to grasp the legal

and reimbursement issues.

A comprehensive approach to the MDS geared toward hospital based

and free-standing nursing facilities and designed for

owners/administrators, nurses, therapists, social workers, activities

directors, billers and consultants. It is not designed to train the

MDS coordinator; rather to train the team that must input data to and

from the MDS.
