Guest guest
Dear Pam: I was on Synthyroid for years and had what you had and more. I had Vertigo (dizziness), noise in my head/ears, keep putting on weight, heart pounding. I got a NEW DR. and told her what we were going to do and that was, take me off synthyroid and put me on Armour. She did and gave me to way to much. so I cut the dosage in half and take one in the morning under my tongue to melt and it works better and I sleep all night. No heart pounding unless I eat white bread, chocolate or any wheat products. Before changing to Armour, it got to where I could not walk across the bedroom floor to get to the bathroom in the am because my heels hurt. Well, being on Armour and reading J. Shomon Author of Living Well With Hypothyroidism has greatly improved my condition. also I noticed when I hear noise in my head/ears I bend my chin down to my chest and the noise stops. Go figure, I am a much healthier person today due to acquiring knowledge about my own health. I joined message boards of others who have my problem and have acquired lots of information from them. Good luck and I would enjoy hearing how you are doing. God Bless Shelby from WVa. Panhandle
Guest guest
Hi All, I am new to this group, have been reading all of the messages so far, and has hit upon my problem in spades! I think I have been poisoned with Drugs......if this does not work....throw THAT at the patient, until your body is hyper sensitive to ANY and ALL meds and vitamins! I begged my Doc and the Er Docs to either help me or to get an appt for me with Dr. Kavorkian for the sleepless nights..caused as the Doc said as Rebound Insomnia I was sleep deprived....4 hours in 4 days....exhausted but as soon as you attempt to relax boom the heart kicks in......then dizziness.....nausea....cannot move, the room spins....! It started months ago when telling the doc about the insomnia...mild at the time.....OK....take Halcion every other night.things seemed OK....but then begged him to take me off the Synthroid for I have been on Armour 3 grains...or as they say now 180mg! He put me on it plus was on Estratest...no problems....dropped weight without trying...more energy...more alert...GRAND! Then the rebound insomnia kicked in.....OK.....off of Halcion onto Trazadone...headache and stuffy head.....yuck...OK....we must treat the heart pounding....(for HOURS and HOURS by now)! Put me on Atenolol, whew....slowed down an already slow heart rate...went to ER for scared to death he next beat was the last one! Monitor showed heart rate as low as 31! But POUNDING! The Doc says....your body is kicking out Adrenalin! Why? Do not know! Why the Insomnia? Do not know! But your Thyroid test is showing 8 so half your dose! He put me on Valium, and I slept the clock around with it, but again it is a DRUG treating the symptom! By the way did not include that I have tested myself to see if it was the Thyroid or the Estratest.....NOPE...had stopped them altogether and NOTHING! NOW...my doc has the excuse he thinks to put me back onto the Thyroxine! I am sooooo frustrated and at the end of my rope! I have to go in to see the Doc this next Wed and am dreading it for I know there will be a fight on my hands....by the way I am 64! Have been healthy with my Armour for years till he messed around with the drugs on me. Any help and suggestions you may have I would treasure to say the least! I have gone to all the references and sites and printed out the material.....and hopefully this foggy brain will be able to cogitate against all odds to fight for me! Thanks for listening.. Guest guest
Fran, if I were in your shoes, I would NOT go back to my same doc if you think he is going to insist on putting you back on synthetic T4. I would seek out a totally different doc--one who is not bound so thickly to modern drugs and the Western thought of how to treat physical problems. I am seeing a Nurse Practioner, for example. She is more a holistic practioner--looking at all aspects of my health. She does have faults---but I've learned from her what kind of doc I want. I've got to cut this email short, but I'll come back with more info later. Janie
Guest guest
I can sympathize with Shelby!! I was put on Synthroid in 85. At that time, I had been having horrible post-exercise exhaustion with pounding heartrate. When we discovered that my TSH was in the 6's, we thought we had found the cause!! But it was not to be. The Synthroid put my TSH down, but the profound post-exercise exhaustion did not end. I figured that it was something else. And it was not just exercise that caused it. If I was out in the sun, I'd get the horrible exhaustion and the pounding heartrate. Or if I did anything for too long a time. I had to live with this for 17 years. THEN, I switched to Armour this past July, and it went away!!!! Synthroid did NOT address the issues that my thyroid WAS causing!!! I now know it was called Dysautonomia, and it was caused by my hypo thyroid which was inadequately treated with synthetics. I am still work-in-progress. But the difference between what synthroid did for me, and what Armour has done for me, is profound. Janie in Colorado
Guest guest
Hi Fran, you need to add progesterone to the estrogen I think. Did you write to the other group, thyroid, too?
