Your post didn't reproduce here. It must have been an image. This will

keep the digest readers happy, anyway.

FWIW, the spirit of this is great, but one thing you definitely

accomplished is confirmed for the automated system that produced the

original spam that your e-mail address is valid, all but guaranteeing

you personally receive more spam from the sender and any of up to dozens

of others that use the same database of valid e-mail addresses. One of

the things I do for a living is the system administrator of an internet

service provider. I developed anti-spam software for use at the server

level. The technique used by this spammer is called " fishing " in the

business (computer geeks are so creative with their technical terms). A

prolific spammer will send out millions of e-mails a day, both to known

addresses and random ones. The invalid ones bounce back. One that

doesn't bounce back isn't necessarily being received by a human,

though. The really choice addresses are the ones that reply. Those are

almost guaranteed to be human generated. Automatic filters (good ones)

never reply. The smart spammers are now sending some very creative

e-mails to entice people to reply either out of rage, curiosity, greed,

lust, etc. The servers where I work receive about 1 million e-mails a

day, so I see much spam. The best approach is to bite our tongues and

ignore spam and never, ever give any spammer any business. The spam

" industry " alone is multi-billion dollar now. There's someone out there

pumping a lot of money into the industries behind the spam. If everyone

(not directed at anyone personally) would stop paying spammers they

would wither away. Again, just fwiw, and again my personal opinion is

the spirit of what you said is great. Maybe a human will read it at the

other end and it *will* make a difference.

I have one userid with which I never do any of the wrong things that

draw spam and it gets none, going through no filters. I have others

that are " honey pots " , intentionally made to look good to spammers just

to get a diverse sample. The worst one gets around 500 every day.
