Guest guest
, That's wonderful that you still have the ability to go to the gym and work out. However there are a select few with complications such as EDS with fusions that have gained close to 100 ponds no mater what structure they have. The chemicals in the brain and body change over night with the process of the surgeries! Honestly, i was fine up until my body needed to holes the screws for the fusion Sent from my iPhone > I have found that the CM and SM makes it harder to do some things but also aging can cause weight gain. I started out just going to water arthritis class 15 years ago now I participate in several classes to the best of my ability. Guest guest
If you are experiencing that sort of weight gain you really need to talk to your drs and a dietician to see what can be done. A 100 lb weight gain isn't healthy for anyone and puts more stress on the body.  I had gained more than 40 lbs at one point early on in coping with all of this. I have lost that and I would like to lose 10 more lbs but it goes really slow when you cannot get your heart rate above a certain point. I have had more success cutting portion sizes. If I have a sandwich for lunch it is a half. Even if I would rather eat junk food I have fruit or raw vegetables.  There is something everyone can do for exercise if you are creative and look around. The gym I belong to offers chair exercise classed and chair yoga and special classes for cardiac issues. It exists you just have to seek it out. I know people who participate in these classes who have had all sorts of issues but they do as much as they can. We have people walking the indoor track at the gym with their walkers and canes and in assorted braces including neck braces.  Many malls offer a dry warm indoor place to walk year round before the stores open.  I started out in physical therapy and was gradually moved over to an exercise program I could do on my own. I had to ask and push for the PT.  If we would have listened to the first neurologist who told me to go home and sit in a chair I would1 100lb over weight.  I am by no means thin I am 5' 9 " and my weight now hovers around 195lbs and I wear a size 12/14 or 14/16.  When the therapists first thought I was ready to try swimming I was crushed when I got in the pool and had no control of my right arm over my head. Nobody new this was an issue because it wasn't an activity I did regularly prior to my diagnosis so we didn't know I had lost that ability. I was able after a lot of time to get that control back and to be able to swim for exercise. I don't count laps I time myself, if I am having a good day I can swim laps for 20 to 25 minutes if it is a bad day it may be 10 but I make sure I spend 30 minutes in the pool even if I spend most of it walking.  If you contact the Arthritis foundation they can tell you if there are classes in your area. I have never been told no I couldn't participate in classes designed for arthritis or seniors once I explained I had medical issues that precluded me from participating in the vigorous exercise classes one would expect someone my age to participate in.    ________________________________ To: Stringer Cc: " " < > Sent: Thursday, February 16, 2012 5:25 PM Subject: Re: Re: Weight Gain/loss , That's wonderful that you still have the ability to go to the gym and work out.  However there are a select few with complications such as EDS with fusions that have gained close to 100 ponds no mater what structure they have.  The chemicals in the brain and body change over night with the process of the surgeries!  Honestly, i was fine up until my body needed to holes the screws for the fusion Sent from my iPhone  >I have found that the CM and SM  makes it harder to do some things but also aging can cause weight gain. Our metabolism slows down as we age so it you had problems with weight before it gets even harder to keep it under control. > >I actually go to the gym 3 or 4 days a week. I started out just going to water arthritis class 15 years ago now I participate in several classes to the best of my ability. I found I actually started losing weight when I started taking classes that focussed on toning muscle groups and the core.
