Guest guest
When was your MRI? I had one 9/04 showing a new lesion, in a new machine, a closed machine. The previous 2 were in open machines and I just don't think they could see it. How large was the new lesion? Definitely wasn't there before or couldn't be seen? When I eat chocolate, I get numbness. When I sleep on my arm I could get numbness, too. But they're typical normal responses to stimuli. Is it winter where you are? good luck, I hope it resolves soon. Fear is a big factor.. we get a bad thought and then everything goes haywire. [low dose naltrexone] numbness for the 1st time in 2+years OK I have been on LDN since Jan 04 and I just had an MRI and they said that I had a new lession and Sat morning I woke up and my right hand is numb and it is stioll numb today.1st - what should I do?2nd - Is LDN no longer working for me??Please help!! Guest guest
Hi Jen, We just had many chats regarding this issue of having a new lesion. I think the overall thought is that some have many lesions and few symptoms and some have one lesion and tons of symptoms. So, it is not always correlated directly with how one is doing. My husband was also bummed that they found a tiny new lesion a couple months after starting LDN. He got depressed and we quickly determined at that point that we would not worry about the lesions because he was doing so much better symptom wise. As far as the numbness, is it possible that it is a direct response to your finding out that you have a lesion and your feeling very stressed about it. Stress is the worse thing that you can do to your body with MS. What dosage are taking at this time? Also are you on an MS diet or taking supplements? Hang in there Aletha [low dose naltrexone] numbness for the 1st time in 2+years > OK I have been on LDN since Jan 04 and I just had an MRI and they said > that I had a new lession and Sat morning I woke up and my right hand is > numb and it is stioll numb today. > 1st - what should I do? > 2nd - Is LDN no longer working for me?? > Please help!! > > > > > > >
Guest guest
Larry and All, In your reply you say that chocolate makes you numb. I was just noticing this past weekend that chocolate was not my friend. It seems that when I have chocolate my MS symptoms seem tobe exagerated a bit.......I was wondering if anyone else in this group, has found the same type of reaction to chocolate? I have to say that I am a total chocoholic. It took going without chocolate for two weeks to notice the corelation between the two and the effects on me. I am just really curious if anyone else out there has noticed any kind of reactions to any certian kinds of foods that may be taken as a light snack or an occasional treat once in a while. --- LarryGC <larrygc@...> wrote: > When was your MRI? I do have major problems with non-organic lettuce. It makes my ankles swell and my breasts break out in fungal blisters around the nipple area. It's all the pesticides that can't be washed away that causes this. When I eat organic lettuce this doesn't happen. I'm sticking with organic...it's not much fun having to rub Vick's vapor rub on my boobies, rather cool sensation lol. Vick's Vapor Rub is great for fungus. Guest guest
Definitely. If I cheat once too often the ms can start to rear its ugly head. The saturated fat cause the bad type of prostaglandin production which in turn creates an inflammatory response and attack the myelin sheath. Giving a person a chronic condition will turns a smart person into a very old one hopefully. We take better care of ourselves than the person who doesn't have the auto-immune condition if we have learned self-love. Guest guest
Chocolate/cocoa has, I believe, as it turns out, as my medical hx shows, to be the cause of ALL but one allergy-related full-blown exacerbation. 1998 proved it, since I was drinking it without knowing it. All previous years I knew how much chocolate I was eating, before getting sick, 3 weeks later. I had chocolate exacerbations in 1978, also, that I discovered last year when talking to an old friend about old times and he brought up my reaction to cocoa in 1978... then I realized that, that, too, was an exacerbation and not JUST an 'allergic reaction' I thought a lot of people would notice a connection with chocolate/cocoa and MS, but some people insist they get no reaction and continue to eat it (but they seem to be also complaining about not getting 'any better', which is surely not my complaint). I have done my own testing with chocolate and I do believe my numbness now is from my indulgences in the last few weeks. I will see in 3 weeks of not having ANY if they subside. 3 weeks seems to be the magic number for things triggered, and subsiding after the offending culprit is stopped. JMHO of course Re: [low dose naltrexone] numbness for the 1st time in 2+years Larry and All, In your reply you say that chocolate makes younumb. Guest guest
As of 2/2003, 2 months prior to LDN, I was not any longer "allergic" according to the prick tests, and a blood test to confirm. NO longer allergic to bananas or almonds, either. All my other 'allergies' matched from the mid 70s to 2003. However, 9/03 I proved, at least to me and my docs, that chocolate will still trigger 'allergic'?'MS' reaction, and so I stopped at first SX and it subsided. I ran this test periodically and have continued to have reaction and potential flare. I do believe LDN kept the flare from happening. But with this last trial, I'm not getting the typical symptoms, but the timeframe on this numbness is 3 weeks after pigging out and enjoying some chocolates. I had some yesterday and now will stop again and see how I feel in 3 weeks from now. It's the only thing that ever gave me either symptom. Guest guest
Kathy is right, everyone is right regarding the chocolate. I'm on (cheat a little from time to time) the Swank diet which prohibits the chocolate. I think the book says we can have a spoonful of Hershey's fat-free syrup, but its best to work it the chocoholic thing out of the system (Look who's talking as I will bleed choc if I could) Also the caffeine is the major factor with MS as it promotes excitedbility. Eating fat free and non-hydronated oils, palm and coconut oils, caffeinated products and transfats is the basis of the Swank Diet. If you want, lets try and work towards a chocolate-free life, sounds sad and destitute but perhaps we addicts can assist each other for the bigger cause which is conquering this disase. --jc A Worrier of the Light sometimes thinks: " If I do not do something, it will not be done " . Guest guest
Hi and everyone! I'm not sure if all people with MS will react adversely to chocolate, but I can certainly notice the bad reactions to it after I have it. All my symptoms get worse. I feel more tingly and numb and my balance and walking are definitely affected in a bad way. When I was first diagnosed with MS, I went on the Swank diet and totally cut out chocolate but then one day I slipped. My husband (who was a major chocoholic!) had bought a big bag of those hershey cookie chocolate things and with the bad combination of being chocolate deprived and loving those yummy treats so much, I went all piggy on them and a few days later my left hand went completely numb!!! I swear it was the chocolates that brought on this attack and it lasted nearly 2 months! I've since done the allergy test and discovered that I have problems with sugar, so this could explain why the chocolate triggered an attack with me. Hope this helps! >From: wensu baki <wensubar@...> >Reply-low dose naltrexone >low dose naltrexone >Subject: Re: [low dose naltrexone] numbness for the 1st time in 2+years >Date: Tue, 24 Jan 2006 19:41:21 -0800 (PST) > > >Larry and All, > In your reply you say that chocolate makes you >numb. Guest guest
Dr. Neiper advised all of us with ms to be careful of too much sugar. Once again, the end result is glycation, oxidative stress and inflammation. Control this and hopefully manage the condition. Guest guest
Thanks all. I just wanted to drop a thank you to every one who replied to the question posed......I read that chocolate should be cut in some diets but never heard from anyone that it exagerates there symptoms.......My mind has been put at ease here a bit thank you. __________________________________________________
