Hi Margaret

I have been on ldn for about 2 months for fibro. I am currently taking 3 mg. I

found the

first few weeks to be really good with pain relief. Now however I am not so good

again. It

seems to be the pattern with me that my body seems to get used to things. i also

take

guaifeinisin and recently stopped this to see if ldn would work on its own.

However the

pain came back quite bad in my back. I will have to see how it goes.

All the best

I think one possible key to success with LDN for fibro is delta wave

sleep--ie restorative stage 4 sleep that produces growth hormone.

that's what Lyrica and Xyrem meds are supposed to produce. I know of a

trial for some new antidepressant for fibro that has one site in my

Florida town--and they're screening OUT anyone who does not report

adequate sleep. research shows fibro is likely to demonstrate alpha

sleep intrusions into delta wave sleep, even if sleep meds are putting

you to sleep. But the nurse who WAS going to help me set up fibro and

Ehlers-Danlos LDN case studies in Atlanta wrote me that she had

achieved restorative sleep with Topomax and then LDN worked for her in

1 month. So it's a 2-pronged attack you may need.

Norman Brown, Ph.D., Ph.D.

I convened the first international research meeting on Naltrexone and

the Endorphin & Immune Systems June 10, 2005 at Rutgers, where the

endocrinologist who discovered in 2004 how naltrexone works on

endorphin system is head of the dept.

Thanks Aletha. I am truly enthralled with this email group. I have

learned so much and am spreading the word to just eveyone whom I think

will benefit form taking LDN. I was at our pharmacy today to pick up

my refill and she told me that the only filler they use with pure

naltrexone is lactose. so far so good and she also said that they are

getting more and more orders for ldn here from different doctors so the

word is getting out. Thanks again

Hi Cathal,

Totally strange but as I said before I have been pain free for almost 3

months now but just a couple of days ago I have pain in my upper back.

I am still taking ldn at night but have had to take a couple of Advil

to relieve the tightness in my back. Along with this I notice too that

my energy level is a bit lower. However, I am still confident that the

ldn will do its job and am going to keep on it and see what happens

just like you said. Will keep you posted as time goes on and lets hope

that our pain free days will return soon.

Dear Norman and Group members

I was very interested to read that one possible key to success with

LDN is because of delta wave sleep. I took my first LDN last night

and boy did I have a good sleep. Better than I have slept for 30 years!

You mentioned that you are taking guaifenisin for Fibro. what is it?

I have never heard of this at least not here in Canada. Is there

another name for it?

Would appreciate some info on this. I have fibro and am taking ldn but

in the last week the pain has returned (not bad) in my upper back.

Maybe this stuff would help me. thanks

Hi

Guaifenisein is a cough medication that you can get easy in the states

check out <www.guailife.com> it has all the info on it. It is supposed

to take phosphates out of the kidneys which are supposed to be the

cause of fibro. The book " What your doctor may not tell you about

fibromyagia " by Dr st armand is worth a read if you are planning on

taking guai. I have been on this 4 years now and it definitely does

help with muscle pain thats for sure because if I stop I really know it.

All the best

I am one of Dr st amand's patients, as I'm lucky enough to live about a 1.5 hour drive from his office here in california. He's really good. Well the guaifenisin as Cathal said is one of the ingredients found in cough syrup but it has to be pure g uaifenisin to be taken for fibro. I have a friend who has improved tremendously using this for fibro and thats why i am trying it now for myself. But so far i cant see any improvements because my MS symptoms are so horrible and many of them overlap the fibro symptoms and its hard to tell which is which!

Dear Anita,

Unfortunately Dr St Amand is an endocrinologist and an expert on fibromyalgia, he doesnt' deal with neurological problems.

He knows I have MS but he is treating my Fibro(as Ive got both).I hope someone on this lsit is from your area (I am close to Los Angeles) and can recommend a good doctor up there for MS.

Hey Cathal,

Thanks for the info about guaifenisein. Just looked at the web site

and wow I couldn't believe the stories about it. I have been taking an

antidepressant (which the doctor says is for muscle relaxation) and it

does help but it is another drug and I would rather try something else

- herbs etc. I am going to check with our health food store and see if

they can get it for me or maybe someone will carry here. Really worth

a try. Thanks again.

According to the blind studies there was no difference between the

placebo group and the Guaifenisein group. This validates your personal

I was on Dr St Amand's treatment, in fact he was my doc.I was using the guaifenisin .I have both MS AND Fibro. But I stopped using the guaifenisin because the spasticity and nerve damage caused by the MS were the worse symptoms, in otyher words i fwlt my problems were more MS related than fibro. But about 40% of the lumps in my muscles did disappear after being on guaifenisin. But i didnt feel better yet. They say it takes a long long time to feel better, related to how long you've had fibro.

According to the blind studies there was no difference between the placebo group and the Guaifenisein group.
