Guest guest
Hi my 14 month old daughter had jaundice her first couple weeks of life....Her level got up into the high 20's (I have the exact readings in her baby book at home) and it was nerve-wrecking cause in some cases brain damage can occur if it gets too high...She had her foot pricked about 10 times and I HATED it!!! She did too but the bili count wouldnt go down for nothin! She was breastfeeding (still is ) ) and that was one of the first questions from the Ped? I was thinking that maybe it was questioned cause some Docs dont think moms should bf during jaundice cause they used to think it made it worse or caused jaundice to begin with or something...I read that somewhere and I have the book at home I think...I dont remember the whole story behind this but I remember reading something about it...Our Ped wanted me to continue to bf and I was lucky enough to have the Home Health people come out and bring Zayna a " bili-blanket " so she could stay at home with mommy and not have to go to the hospital under the light and not be able to breastfeed...I was told that this is how jaundice is treated now, and mostly because they wanted the babies to still be able to bond and breastfeed with mommy ) It was wonderful how it worked out with the blanket and her treatment was easy, although long and stressful....I used to call her my little Glow Worm, cause that is what she looked like with the lighted pad on her back...She really wanted to nurse during this time and I am so glad she was able to be at home...Anyway, I just wanted to share with you all that my baby had to go through the jaundice and the bili blanket treatment, and that is the ONLY thing we have ever had to go through with her...She is vaccine-free, has never been ill, and is STILL breastfed!!! It sucked that she had the jaundice so long and her bili levels stayed so high, but she is just fine and no damage was done ) Ronda ) http://www.geocities.com/zaynablair/Zaynaspage.html http://communities.msn.com/VaccinationInformation Date: Fri, 20 Jul 2001 19:33:14 -0000 From: " MomToTwoKids " <laura_j_Luster@...> Subject: Re: OT: Jaundice question Both of my kids were jaundiced, but my second son's level got to 20, and then came down. I really was not concerned - a little bit of sunlight and making sure he stayed on the breast long enough to get the hindmilk took care of it. They told me if it got above 20 they would want to do some kind of special lights - bilirubin?. Anyway, they only subjected him to the heal prick twice. Are you nursing? I know they seem more concerned when you are nursing than formula feeding. Not sure why. > Jaundice > > How serious is it? Guest guest
Hi Sherry, you can sound off as much as you want. Last week was my week to do that. I'm alittle better this week. I've had AIH for two years and I still have ups and downs. I think it's just a fact of life for us with this horrible disease. I try to enjoy the good times because a bad one is just around the corner. Hi Theresa, welcome to the group. Your symptoms do sound a lot like AIH, but a lot of other ailments also. Once your blood tests come back that will tell you for sure. I had a biopsy done two years ago and it's wasn't that bad. I have another scheduled at the end of this month. That's the only way to tell if your liver is more scarred. My doc sedates me for the biopsy, so insist upon it. I know some docs do not do that, but I still wouldn't give them a choice. It's your body, you decide. Take care and good luck, in Louisiana AIH 99' >
Guest guest
A question for all of you: Has anyone tried this: Using a garlic press, press out 1 garlic clove (Toe) and swallow like a pill? Thanks ahead of time, Sheila Asleson PS here is a great article taken from the Fungus group: FOODS RICH IN FUNGAL(MOLD) PROTEIN-ALLERGENS Dried Fruit -- Raisins, apricots, prunes, figs, etc. Aged Cheese -- some cheeses are okay if milk is not a problem. e.g. cottage cheese, mozzarella, provolone, ricotta and farmers cheese. Leftovers -- Eat within 24 hours, unless frozen Mushrooms Over-ripe Fruites and Vegetables --(Discolored, wilted, mushy) Breads -- Check ingredients. Malted means moldy. Dough conditioners are moldy. Sourdough is the worst (sometimes labeled yeast-free). Bread develops surface mold after a day. Tortillas, biscuits, muffins, cakes and cookies are usually yeast-free. Tomato Products -- Juice, sauce, paste, ketchup, etc., are made from moldy tomatoes. Beer -- The darker the brew, the more mold it contains. Wine & Wine Vinegar -- White wine is least moldy: clear vinegar may be tolerated. Most Liquors -- Vodka, Tequila, clear rums are least moldy. Multi-B Vitamins -- Contain either yeast or mold (rice hulls are moldy) Processed Meats -- Hot dogs, sausage, salami, bologna, etc. Solid preserved meats such as ham, turkey, pastrami, may be okay. Hamburger -- Often from aged meat: eat within a day of grinding. Products of Aspergillus Fermentation -- Soy Sauce, Chocolate, Tea(black), Malt Extract (bread, cereals), Lactaid (milk additive), Citric Acid (a common food additive; not derived from citrus fruit) Fruit Juice (commercial -- often from moldy fruit, many contain mold enzymes added in processing), Digestive Enzymes (pancreatic are okay), Cholesterol-lowering Enzymes. Note: All foods will become moldy with time. Shop frequently, buy in small quantities. Read labels. Molds thrive on sugar, so control your intake. A moldy environment (home, office, school, church, car). * There is a controversial blood test called MAST test for mold available in some places. Guest guest
the early days sure were exciting. Over the course of the early days I had 6 years of annual flare symptoms reappear for a short (days/week) duration, in exact reverse order, including hernia pain for a hernia I got inbetween. http://www.larrygc.com/mystory is my journaling of the early days and I still update it. Lost some posts last May when ezboard was hacked, but I continued where I left off. I started 4/17/03, my last blood tests were 11/02, 11/03, 1/05. Since 03 I had them add my T# cells too, full liver panel and TSH. I never went back for my 1/05 results.. I'm going next week for them, and to have another test done so I can compare. I mainly go to chiropractors, and docs when I want things done or have a problem my chiros and I can't handle. Good luck to ya Re: [low dose naltrexone] Digest Number 1846 HI EVERYBODY I AM TAKING LDN SINCE LAST 10 DAYS.I WAS BETTER FOR FIRST 4-5 DAYS AFTER WHICH I AM FEELING MY SYMPTOMS HAVE INCREASED IN INTENSITY ?ANY BOBY WITH SIMILAR EXPERIENCE ? Guest guest
Hi Amit, Hang in there, many people feel a temporary increase in symptoms. Hopefully they will disappear shortly.
