I hope no one minds my asking about my beloved pets on this website as they have degenerative mylopothy which is the same as MS in humans. I have researched medications as currently nothing in the Vet world is helping. I have heard about LDN and wanted to know if anyone has heard of giving it to dogs and if so what was the result. I am desperate as one of my dogs is close to death and the other's legs are becoming paralyzed. Any thoughts. Thanks JT

[low dose naltrexone] Stiffness in upper legs, numbness (servere)

Hi guys

I understand there are issues with people starting LDN. Prior to

starting it I had a lot MS symptoms the one that is flaring is

numbness, and now I have stiffness in my upper legs and it is like

someone has wrapped a tourniquet around both upper legs and is

twisting them hard. This is making me have thoughts of stopping it.

Can someone please answer some questions if you have had similar

symptoms?

1. Are these permanent symptoms.

2. If not does the stiffness go away or reduce

3. What is the cause of the flaring. I have read that it is the

body getting used to it.

I have ordered 3mg tablets and will start them Thursday night.

Acidophilus filler.

Kind regards

Phil

This is strictly opinion, take it for what it's worth. Giving LDN to

dogs (and maybe cats?) has been mentioned here before and I've seen it

referenced on a web page or two. I have a cat who thinks he's a dog

(does that qualify for canine physiology?) because he grew up with the

two dogs. He's finishing a 3 week round of antibiotics today for

recurring bladder and urinary tract problems, which typically are life

long after they start in a male cat and typically are life shortening.

He's only 2 years old and quite a character who would be sorely missed

by all if he dies young. After today's antibiotics, I plan to start

giving him LDN tonight, approximately 0.25 - 0.5 mg in liquid form. It

will be tough to be more accurate than that in such a small dose

squirted in a cat's mouth. I gave it to him once before to test his

reaction to the bitter taste. It was quite lively. I'm trying LDN

because an autoimmune aspect is suspected in feline urinary crystal

formation. The consensus seems to be (in humans) that it can't hurt, it

can only help. The behavioral issues that may result from a cat with

enhanced endorphins is another matter :).
