Guest guest
Hi Lesley, Where are you located? Thanks Aletha [low dose naltrexone] Good news & a question for the women Hi Everyone, I saw my neuro. on wed. She is very pleased with how I am doing on the LDN. I brought her tons of info. I had printed off along with your book . She said she would be very interested in reading it. I mentioned how well I felt I was doing on it. I also told her of my friend with als with no progression in two months!!!! I said maybe this is something you could offer to people with limited medication choices. I knew if I said please prescribe this to everyone it wouldn't fly. Altho I really think I made some headway. She was very shocked to hear that alot of doc's won't prescribe this. She said "Thats crazy its not like this will hurt you". So I teased her and said ya know there are alot of people who want your number. She said what for a prescription? I said yes. She said I don't mind giving them. . I said but I don't think you would do it over the phone without meeting them? She said no of course not. So if I hear of anyone in my area I have the doc. for them! I am so hoping she will read all I gave her and be stunned. After all there is so much pro and very little con. Maybe she can help in some way to spread the word. I have a question for the women out there. Men close your eyes . Did any of you have problems with your period while on LDN? More frequent coming earlier? Also acne. I am getting the weirdest outbreaks. Not complaining just wondering? Take Care

Guest guest
, It sounds like you've found a terrific doc. Congratulations! Where are you from? As for your question, I have noticed a bit of acne, but nothing terribly extraordinary. The length of my cycle has also gotten longer, but then, I am pre-menopausal, so who knows? Guest guest
From a male perspective, I second what said. My wife is the one with MS in our clan and changes in her cycle are sometimes an early indication of looming MS related problems. I hadn't correlated it before, but yes, , 's periods have been more frequent since starting LDN, sometimes as short as 21 day cycles, typically about 25 days. Before she was almost always 28 days. There have been other issues, such as fertility hormones, major stress from moving and intense summer heat, any one of which we assumed was the cause, but it also correlates to starting LDN. I would also be curious if other women have seen the same reduction in cycle time since starting LDN, if they don't mind replying. It might ease 's mind. She's still worried about it, though coping. Guest guest
Hi Suzanne, I feel very fortunate to have her. I actually thanked her for helping me. She stopped, thought a moment and said I try to do what I can to help. I think it threw her. I've since talked to someone who use to work for a neuro. typing out transcripts. She said you probably made her day. Not many people thank their doctors. She's right. Even tho I am in Canada and don't pay out of pocket per say I have to agree that I don't thank doctors very often. It's almost a given that they are to treat us. Thats their job. At least thats how we feel sometimes. I am in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Thanks for answering my question. No doubt it's hard to tell if you are peri meno... I may be hitting that soon myself. In the short term I am having it closer together. *groans* Take Care > It sounds like you've found a terrific doc. Congratulations! Guest guest
I thought I'd better step in and explain. I have known for years. He was only joking! He does take my feelings into consideration. Honest! in keeping with reporting changes when on ldn, I wonder what having periods closer together indicates? Other than a pain in the butt . What I hate is I have two autoimmune diseases and they both get worse during that time. The ms and the hidradenitis. Take Care and Thanks for coming to my rescue. Guest guest
I've heard that LDN increase Testosterone Levels. I bet that might have something to do with it. Guest guest
Hi Wesley, Thank you for your reply. What type of problems does your wife have? If thats not getting too personal. I do know that existing ms symptoms get worse during that time (period). Also many women have been known to go into remission while pregnant and have a relapse a couple of months after giving birth. I haven't been on LDN long enough to see if this change of closer periods is to stay. I am about 3 months on. One month at 4.5. Maybe once my system gets use to the ldn my period will straighten out? I use to be 28 days but now am 21 days. It's just recently I noticed the corelation. Please tell to try and not worry. I know thats hard sometimes but stress can make ms symptoms much worse. Also, add on, the fatigue and dizziness the heat brings on with mser's, makes for feeling pretty rough! It's no wonder why feels as she does! Hopefully soon the stress will leave and her cycle will straighten out. Oh do you have air conditioning? It's a must for me in the summer months. If by chance you can't afford one the ms society will help pay for one up to a certain amount. At least they do in Canada. I'm not sure how much tho. Guest guest
She has major headaches that feel very much like her sporadic MS headache for 2-3 days before. She had this before LDN, but it's worse now. There's also heavier flow during, which at times is enough to scare her, and, as mentioned, shorter cycles since starting LDN. She never got pregnant (long story, complications), but after stopping the fertility hormones, she had a major exacerbation, mimicking the post-partum effect. The major stress is over since the move is over. Heat is no longer a concern since we now live on the frozen tundra. The natives here think 85 Fahrenheit is a hot day and one time it was 93! 85 with almost constant wind is nothing compared to 110 and stagnant. Her MS was one reason we moved away from the heat. wrote: >Hi Wesley, > >Thank you for your reply. What type of problems does your wife >have? If thats not getting too personal. Guest guest
I have a question as a younger person, and as some one who might be taking LDN in the future. What if you are on birth control? Specifically FOR regulation of cycles. Will LDN complicate this? I had to go the emergency rooms for cramps and emotional imbalances as a teenager, and was put on birth control to prevent this(also keeps me sane during cycles...though... I still get MEAN). If I take LDN, and it DOES cause trouble with a woman's cycle, will it affect that the birth control is doing to help me? Is there any younger women on birth control who are taking LDN? Guest guest
Hi , Where did you find this info.? There's so little info. out there. I read where ldn increases endorphin levels and the primary supervisor's or regulators of the immune system are 90% hormonal control. It doesn't mention whether there is an increase of testosterone, progesterone (sp?) or estrogen. Tell you what! If I grow a beard you can have it ;0) I do know my hair is coming in alot better! I lost alot of it while on avonex :0( Take Care > > Yes, some people experience more acne, and others even say they grow > more hair. Guest guest
I'm sorry to hear that! Migraines can be pretty painful. I was taking sandomigran as a preventative. It really helped but since starting the ldn I am off it. Mine is heavier also. I wonder why the period thing is hit or miss. I've never been heavy enough that it scared me tho. Has she talked with her doctor? I'm glad you are in a cooler place now. Many find it hard to beleive but in Ontario, Canada it gets up in the 100's or more in the summer. Very humid heat. Guest guest
Hi , Any idea why this occurs for some? I have another illness thats made worse during menses time. It's part autoimmune and part hormonal. I am hoping and praying that the ldn helps it. It's called hidradenitis supurativa. Guest guest
Hi Anri, As far as I know the bc pill and ldn should be fine. Just stay away from narcotic pain meds. and interferons. I had what you have know when I was younger. I can certainly relate! It's no fun having pain like that every month. May you continue to stay pain free. Guest guest
Hi , I'm glad to hear he was only joking... I thought it was a bit over the top to be so disgusted just by the mention of periods! LOL I felt that you were hesitant to mention them anyway and I know what's it like to find something difficult to talk about and then have someone make you feel bad about it when you do get up the courage to talk about it.... so it was my pleasure to come to your rescue :-) I wonder what having periods closer together indicates too! I have severe CFS and am looking at trying LDN to see if it will help me but am not on it as yet. I can't say having periods more often is very appealing LOL but it would certainly be worth it (and a lot more) if I could be well again! [low dose naltrexone] Re: Good news & a question for the women I thought I'd better step in and explain. Guest guest
Hi , Yeah he can be a butt sometimes. Lol! I think it's great you came to my rescue. Thank you! There are some things that are hard to talk about but at least it's not as bad as years ago. I think of my mother in law watching some programs that are on now and oh boy. Good luck on the LDN for the chronic fatigue. I find thats one of my worst MS symptoms. It's hard to measure it tho. People don't get it can be so disabling. Take Care Ps, My periods are back to normal now I have no idea what it means. Lol! > Hi ,> > I'm glad to hear he was only joking... I thought it was a bit over the top to be so disgusted just by the mention of periods! LOL> I felt that you were hesitant to mention them anyway and I know what's it like to find something difficult to talk about and then have someone make you feel bad about it when you do get up the courage to talk about it.... so it was my pleasure to come to your rescue :-) > > I wonder what having periods closer together indicates too!
