Will have a definitive answer to Candida next week

with cost to Oregon's Medicaid and my own bother. Not

sure about spit test results for me, but Skip termed

test " Silly " and urged me to quote him directly in

this chatroom. He is generous with his time and sure

Skip is willing to say as much to anyone who phones

him. Dr. Balch (Prescription for Nutritional Healing)

states same for difficulty diagnosing. Diagnosis too

important to not get definitive test. Don't have

other usual symptoms and want answer to flatulence and

diarrhea. NO intention of giving up LDN!!! Skip

doesn't understand a possible

allergy to LDN or his filler. So am only testing.

Best--- Shirley

It's me again from the Autism LDN list. This home test sounds very interesting, and if it works it would be terrific! I will try it out on some of my yeasty patients and see.

As to lab testing of yeast (which many if not most austistic kids have before treatment) the stool samples we get seldom show yeast unless it is a very bad case, as the reagents destroy most of the yeast. However, urinary metabolites that show up on the urine organix (organic acid test) are what we use in our community to show the presence of yeast. It would be great if we found a test that would not entail a lab fee, but for one that I use very successfully as a guide to yeast treatment, see this from Metametrix. This test must be ordered by a physician, but kit is sent to patient and mailed back to the lab (no, I do not work for or get paid anything by any lab!) and is much easier than stool testing for most people. Dr. JM

Is urine or stool better for assessing dysbiosis?Although stool testing has been the traditional method for assessing dysbiosis, "there is increasing evidence that the fecal microbiota does not mirror the colonic situation."[1] This results in a high degree of false negatives and a greater potential to miss a clinically significant dysbiotic situation. In addition to a wealth of information about human metabolism, urine contains unique products of microbial metabolism. With the exception of hippurate, the compounds measured in the Dysbiosis Markers Profile are not normally produced by human cells. Unfriendly intestinal microorganisms, however, can manufacture them in relatively high quantities. These compounds are absorbed into the blood from the intestines and eventually appear in the urine. Microbial overgrowth can lead to a wide variety of symptoms due to reactions to the toxic products produced by bacteria, parasites, or fungi. Various patterns of the compounds appear elevated in conditions of general intestinal microbial overgrowth. Clinical effects can be as diverse as:

Behavioral Disorders Chronic Fatigue Depression Headache Immune Dysfunction Insomnia Irritable Bowel Syndrome Joint Pain Learning Disorders Nutritional Deficiencies Skin Disorders

The Metametrix Dysbiosis Markers Profile features:

An easy overnight urine specimen, resulting in better patient acceptance than stool testing. Discrimination between microbial classes, allowing more focused therapies. D-arabinitol, a specific marker for Candida sp. D-lactate, an indicator of L. acidophilus overgrowth and carbohydrate malabsorption. As a component of the Organix Profile, it can be used as an economical follow-up to monitor therapy.
