Was it a Chiari specialist as well as nerosurgeon?

Sent via BlackBerry by AT & T

That was a waste of my time!!!

Went to see Neurosurgeon today and he basically told me there's nothing he can

do for me. Keep taking my meds and if the headaches become severe again get a

spinal tap and when those 2 things don't work anymore get a shunt....Cya

bye!.....So now since I am sitll symptomatic with all the other symptoms I

cannot return to work. I drive a school bus and there is no way I will pass my

physical to drive nor will the let my drive if I'm off balance all the time. I

don't know what else to do or where else to go. I've been to countless doctors

and he was kind of my last resort....Can you get disability for this? If I can't

go back to work we will lose our house, I mean everything!

Ironic you should ask that!....I still am not ruling out Chiari but apparently

the docs are! I tried to schedule an apt. with a very well known Chiari

specialist in Columbus and they said he wouldn't even see me because all my

results are leading to Pseudotumor! I have never heard of such a thing! All of

my symptoms, which I've posted somewhere here, are also symptoms of Chiari! I

just feel screwed (except it no fun) sorry for the pun. My life is over I don't

know why I would joke about it.....but it's kind true!

Laughing about things makes them bearable. I laugh at my health stuff, I save

serious for the times when I have to.

Don't give up. Consult another.

My first doc, even a chiari specialist, said he saw nothing wrong and I needed

nacotics. No thanks, next. Next required a syrinx with herniation. No syrinx.

Next! Another did not treat anyone with shorter than 5mm. Next!

Its hard to keep trying, many of us know how hard that road is.

So sorry I really didn't answer your question...No this doc today was a

Pseudotumor specialist. He said he looked at my films and saw no Chiari. I

have only had an MRI of brain...no neck and no spine!!!

And @ Hanna, So how did you finally get diagnosed and how do you believe what

their telling you is true after so many docs and tests and misdiagnosis,

I mean is it a gut feeling that makes you think they know what their doing or

what? It sounds like you have been told so many different things, I can't

imagine how that must have felt. Helpless I'm sure

is a good word....It's how I'm beginning to feel! I told the doc today that I

have only been AWAKE for 3 HOURS of a 24 hour period. That I sleep up to 17

hours a day, sometimes not waking up the next

day til 3, 4, 5pm.....He says to me, " that's not unusual....when people don't

feel good, they sleep right? " ....Wait...hold up...WHAT! There have been many

days when I don't feel good but to go to bed at

10 at night and sleep til 5pm the next day....No this is something different

than just not feeling good! This goes along with all my other symptoms I've had

for 3 months now!!! Also question....He

looked in my eyes and said he couldn't see anything at far as (can't spell or

say it) Pap-something or other. He just kept looking and looking and his

assistant looked and he said " Nope it's just not

there " ....What the heck? He sending back to Opthamologist to do some field

test. What difference is that going to make?

Was it a Chiari specialist? You need to see someone who knows it front and back!

A true Chiari specialist will not write you off before seeing you and getting

more tests if needed. I would def recommend mine if you need a good

Neurosurgeon! He is wonderful and knows what he's doing. When everyone else told

me I was crazy and a neurosurgeon wouldn't even consider looking further into

Chiari because he thought it was Pseudotumor cerebre...my Neurosurgeon was

willing to get to the bottom of it no matter what. That is what you need.

Someone who will fight for and think about you and not just what is most popular

opinion or how much money they can make off you!

I agree with Hannah: keep looking until you find a real Chiari expert. The

biggest clue will be that he doesn't cherry-pick his clients. He helps everyone.

Good luck.
