Guest guest
Check the AHCPR Wound Care Practice Guidelines. I think you can access them through the NIH website. Thanks. Guest guest
Your wound care reps will have good information. and Nephew has education material on Differential Diagnosis (Guide) and Convatec(1-) has a easy to follow guide with recommendations for appropriate wound care products--and they are many others--all of which are free. The US Dept of Health and Human Services has the clinical practice guideline for prevention and treatment of pressure ulcers(there is a small fee for the books). I would highly recommend the agencies Treatment of Pressure Ulcers if you have MD/Nurse/PT that are using unproven/toxic techniques(Betadine on healthy wounds/Dakins Solution, " air drying " the wound etc) it will clarify those type of issues for you. Also, if you are interested, the 15 Annual Skin and Wound Care clinical symposium will be held Oct 5-8 in Nashville, Tn. Guest guest
You might try the WOCN Assoc (Wound, Ostomy, Continence Nurses). Was a member for 1-2 yrs prior to APTA getting more involved in wound care - curious to see what other disciplines were doing and needed a resource for my thirst for wound care knowledge. They were working on pathways years ago but haven't heard much about the progress. Was QUITE a challenge for same reason research in wound care is often difficult - LOTS of variables in this client group (type of wound, complicating medical factors, levels of mobility, size/depth of wounds,...). 'fraid I'm out of any of my WOCN journals for a 1-800 resource. Access to a nursing school in your location, an ET (enterostomal nurse), maybe even some of the nurses at your facility may be a reference. Good luck!
