Guest guest
I don't dilute with water it at all. Instead I blend it with coconut oil so as to avoid any drying of the skin because DMSO will do that. Though I have heard that it will not dry out feet, I know it dries out my application fingers. So that is how I use it and it works just fine that way. ----- Original Message ----- Hello... 1.) Since DMSO is so effective at penetrating the skin, should the water I use be " sterile distilled water " purchased from a lab or medical supply or plain old distilled water available at most stores. I see Janet commented on another BBS that the water in RIMSO-50 is not you garden variety distilled water. So this opened a Pandora's Box of confusion as there are so many types of " purified " water out there I don't know what to do. 2.) If sterile water is advisable, my research reveals it doesn't stay sterile for long but begins to degrade as soon as it is exposed to air and is recommended to be used immediately and to discard the rest. 3.) If sterile water becomes degraded, how is it that all the 70/30 solutions of DSMO available (including at labs) say they have a shelf life of up to 5 years?? Guest guest
I make Brook's mix of 75% Distilled water (or colloidal silver), 15% glycerine, and 10% DMSO. Sometimes I make a stronger ratio of DMSO for really hurting joints. To get around the dried-out application fingers, and also to prevent whatever might be on my fingers from getting delivered into my skin, I put whatever mix I've made into 1oz, glass roll-on bottles I get on eBay. This is a very tidy way of applying, especially if you're out and about and also, if you're using some other staining substance like Lugol's or just very pricey stuff like Argan oil, there's much less waste. Be well, Léna I don't dilute with water it at all. Instead I blend it with coconut oil so as to avoid any drying of the skin because DMSO will do that. Guest guest
Mara, The ones I got have glass balls, and their housing, though plastic, I think would be even more negligible than the plastic bottles the DMSO originally came in. I've experienced no problem with them. So many of the issues I have are helped by frequent application and this definitely makes that easier. Guest guest
DMSO will not carry in organisms even as small as a virus because they exceed the 1,000 Dalton size limitation. So if that is your concern you needn't worry about DMSO carrying in microbes. I use distilled water or Colloidal Silver that I make from distilled water. My distilled water is not made in a sterile environment. But there are not any chemicals floating around in the air where I make it. I wash the storage jars but again do not sterilize them. Just keep it free of toxic chems, which I do not keep in my home any way. The distilled water at Wahlgreens is widely used by those in CS community as being acceptable pure. www.silverlist.org is a good resource if you want to discuss this. RO water is fine if you change your filters regularly. Same with carbon filtered, but if bacteria has grown from lack of maintenance, and it will, you could have bacterial toxins. That's why I like distilled. DMSO stand alone is antimicrobial so in strong solution I would think there is less likelihood that while stored it is going to grow anything. I have never seen any evidence of microbial growth in DMSO I have had for years, even opened for years. You could write to Lab and ask them about their shelf life claims and see what sort of answer you get. Please post it to the list if you do. Thanks, Janet > ----- Original Message ----- > > > Hello... > > 1.) Guest guest
If I needed more of these roll-ons now, I'd have to go to eBay, enter '1oz glass roll-on bottles', and keep my fingers crossed. Guest guest
I would like to add: Do you take it topically or orally and why not dilute with an alcohol like vodka? Guest guest
Janet, Thanks for this info. I always worried what i am making the DMSO carry into my system. I would comfort myself not to worry as it is antimicrobial. LOL I also wish to say that unfortunately the horse farm DMSO smells stronger, i find it more potent than those with no smell DMSO found in the internet. I transfer them into gallon jars immediately when i get home. I was so afraid the FDA might clump on the DMSO that i bought a second gallon. My first gallon is only half gallon now and it is 3 years old, and i think it is still potent. Does this have a shelf life? Take care. > > DMSO will not carry in organisms even as small as a virus because they > exceed the 1,000 Dalton size limitation. Guest guest
Mara....I've not seen roll-on bottles that have glass rollers. Usually it's a non-reactive plastic/teflon. Guest guest
Hi Gang... I'm the original poster of this query and since I posted I've been looking for appropriate roll-on applicators and have founf this: http://www.pumpking.com/rollon.htm These are High-Density Polyethylene bottles with Polypropolene cap and balls. All of these materials are inert and don not react with DMSO. Should do the trick for people want a roll-on applicator. Guest guest
I have one of those farm supply roll on bottles--but the bottle itself is plastic.... mara > Perhaps those people that SELL DMSO actually know something, as I > purchased my roll-on DMSO at a farm supply in the horse section. > It's roller is glass. > > Chuck > > I live in California, and my watch is three hours fast, I can't fix > it, so I'm moving to New York. > > > > Mara.... > > I've not seen roll-on bottles that have glass rollers. Guest guest
Opinion only......... I've no experience; never even seen a roll-on applicator with a metal ball. I'd use the non-reactive plastic. As Showhost said in his/her 10/15 post, / " These are High-Density Polyethylene bottles with Polypropolene cap and balls. All of these materials are inert and don not react with DMSO. Should do the trick for people want a roll-on applicator. " / Inert is the good word here. As I understand it, metal is not inert even if it's non-reactive with DMSO. You may not even be able to tell if it's non-reactive with the roller-ball. There may also be something that racts to the metal in the other stuff you're using with the DMSO. Guest guest
My two cents, too. I am keeping my dmso/peroxide mix in two glass jars, both have metal lids, but one I covered first with a couple layers of saran wrap to be between the dmso and the lid. I filled the jars in the early summer or late spring. I noticed last night that the one with just the metal lid was starting to rust at the part that has the screwing job so it left rust spots where it touched the mouth of the jar. On the other lid I had tried to see if plastic wrap would protect it. That lid seems fine and the plastic wrap is not melted or in any way looking to me like it is breaking down. But as for it being " nonreactive " I hardly think saran wrap qualifies as nonreactive, but that is the best I could think to do at the time. I can't tell you what metal the lids are made from. I would just really wonder about dmso and any metal other than maybe stainless steel, especially if it has to touch. My dmso never touches the lids, so dmso emits fumes. I would first find out what those metal roller balls are made from. Lyn >Opinion only......... I've no experience; never even seen a roll-on >applicator with a metal ball. I'd use the non-reactive plastic.
Guest guest
Chuck, What brand of roll-on DMSO do you have. Do they have website where we can purchase? I just checked my roll on and the roller is made of plastic. Thanks. > > > Mara.... > > > I've not seen roll-on bottles that have glass rollers. Guest guest
For glass canning jar storage you can buy plastic screw tops. Like you, I found even with saran wrap, the dmso rusts the metal lids, so now I use the plastic lids on my canning jars. Samala, -------Original Message------- I noticed last night that the one with just the metal lid was starting to rust at the part that has the screwing job so it left rust spots where it touched the mouth of the jar. Guest guest
I must not get out much..lol.. but I have never heard or seen plastic screw on lids for canning jars. I do think it is a nifty idea tho. I used to can a lot and after you 'pop' the canning lid off, a plastic screw on cap (instead of the canning caps/lids/rings) would be real handy. Guest guest
I found them at walmmart, with the canning jars. They do come in handy for a lot of things.
