A Nissen fundoplication is a " wrap " at the top of the child's stomach.

They take a part of their stomach up over their esophagus, and wrap it

up and staple it shut. This is how it was explained to us when Kennedy

had it done. It prevents reflux because nothing can come back up

<usually>, there is, however from what we were told a 10-15% chance of

the nissen failing, coming apart, etc. It has been a lifesaver for

Kennedy, although it has caused her gas pain, but that is getting better

with a recent milk change. We are happy with our decision to have the

fundo done.

Just as the last drops of milk are about to go down through the syringe

to the tube <and stomach>, we " pull back " on the syringe, and this

sucks alot of air <at times> up and out of her stomach. When you can

see that it's just all milk coming back, you just hold the syringe

upright and put the milk in and stop when it gets to the air. The air

will stay at the top. I hope this helps, it's done wonders for Kennedy.
