Guest guest
Our DAN doctor prescribed Acyclovir for our son instead of Valtrex. Is it the same? Is Valtrex stronger or more aggressive to kill the virus? I am positive that most of our son's issues are viral, since I got the shingles zoster virus 2 days after was born, thus exposing him. Obviously I want to use the correct product/protocol to aide his healing. He's been getting Acyclovir for the past 11 days now, and the infamous healing rash has not happened yet, which is very disappointing to me. Also, the anti-fungal we are using is called MCT oil. Any comments on acyclovir or MCT oil?To: mb12 valtrex@...Sent: Tuesday, November 11, 2008 4:28:21 PMSubject: Re: Billing codes what state are you in and WHERE and HOW do you get that, I would by far pay 100 a month to have our biomedical stuff covered Recovering from Autism is a marathonNOT a sprint, but FULLY possible!Read more about it on my BLOGs athttp://www.myspace. com/christelkinghttp://foggyrock. com/MyPage/ recoveringwisheshttp://www.facebook .com/profile. php?id=677063169 Billing codesTo: AUTISM-togetherinau tismorg@yahoogro ups.com, mb12 valtrex@ yahoogroups. comDate: Tuesday, November 11, 2008, 5:51 AM I keep reading about billing codes in relation to autism. And does anyone know anything about Medicaid? We have private insurance but I am in the process of getting Tristan a PA ACCESS card which essentially is Medicaid as a supplemental insurance. Guest guest
We've used acyclovir and it was great. It has to be dosed 5x a day though. Never used MCT oil so I can't comment there. But I will say that rarely do natural antifungals work with Rx antivirals. Guest guest
Cheryl - thanks for writing me back, and for your advice. We are doing 3x a day at 425mg per dose. Do you remember what your child's dosage amount was at 5x per day?Just wondering if we should look into upping our frequency per day. Also, what antifungal did you use? We were hesitant to use the one our DAN Dr. suggested as it required blood draws to make sure things were in balance, and blood draws are very hard on our son from a stress standpoint.Anything you can share would be appreciated.Marisa.To: mb12 valtrex@...Sent: Wednesday, November 12, 2008 6:46:59 PMSubject: Re: Using Acyclovir Anyone? Guest guest
300 mg 5x a day and he was about 32 lbs at the time. We were on Rx systemic antifungals and they do require blood draws to monitor liver function.FWIW, I've heard of very few people being able to control the yeast while on antivirals with naturals. Guest guest
Marisa I haven't used Acyclovir yet we are not past Flagyl yet, but my husband has. It was extremely effective for his issues in the past, i.e. glandular fever style fever which would not budge. Via my research I found out that Valtrex is 6/7 times stronger than Acyclovir and converts into Acyclovir in the body. It is more bio- available than straight Acyclovir and crosses the BBB. It is also hypothesised that Acyclovir in its rawest form might be more efficient against Herpes group of Viruses. When I get to the reason (research damn hard to read) I will post. I am watching that if Valtrex doesn't do the trick (going to retest after about 6 months) or have significant effects, I will ask Dan to put my son on Valcyclovir or similar. Treatment for CMV (my son's biggie) is Valcyclovir or Gancyclovir I think the latter is called, but very heavy on the system so starting with Valtrex. This part of the journey, for me, is like a white-knuckle ride. Scary. HTH Eileen
Guest guest
I would caution against gancyclovir. I know the pill form came out about 2 years ago but it's main use is maintenance after IV gancyclovir. I can't really tell you why but Dr. Goldberg says it's very dangerous to give it to kids. I asked him about it when I was researching the most effective treatments for herpes viruses and of course, gancyclovir is supposed to be the most effective. I just kind of went with him on that one and didn't research it after that - I believe he mentioned something about causing blindness, which I'm not sure why since one of it's main uses is to prevent blindness by treating ocular herpes. But I did read that it can cause some severe blood disorders. So you may want to do more research before choosing that route if you get to that point. Guest guest
Cheers Cheryl. I understand these are the big CMV guns - they are my last resort and only if I test and titres have gone absolutely haywire....no I am the careful type. I have heard what you have also heard about Gancyclovir. I do think sometimes I get greedy and aim too high. I do hope I never, ever, get to that stage...of needing the Gangup pills.
