Officer says to call the complainant back and have them come to the door. Well, by the time I get the number dialed in and the person answers, they say " I'm already talking to the officer! " Talk about sounding stupid to the complainant. Or, the officer (only on day shift here, for some reason) who's too lazy to get out of his car and go knock on a door. He almost ALWAYS wants dispatch to call them back and have them step out. But, supervisors don't care and won't do anything about it, so it's their fault as much as his. Now I'm on a roll.....this has been said before, but people, officers and dispatchers, who cut themselves off on the radio. I really hate that. Then, we've got one that honestly thinks I'm lying to him when I tell him he does it! Won't come in and listen, but still doesn't believe me. Or, supervisors who agree when we complain about something an officer did on the radio, but then GO OUT AND DO THE SAME STUPID THING! Even worse--Supervisors who don't know anything about dispatch, and always side with the officers when we complain about something. We have several of those. We have another officer who TALKS TOO LOUD. IT'S SO LOUD, HE OVER-MODULATES HIMSELF ON THE RADIO, WHICH CAUSES IT TO CUT IN AND OUT. We tell him all the time about it, and tell his sergeant. Well, this sergeant is one who never takes a dispatcher's complaint seriously--he says that we're " just going to have to turn down the volume on our radio's when [that officer] talks. " WHAT? I DON'T THINK SO! How the hell do I know when that officer is getting ready to talk??? This officer says it's just his radio. Well, it happens no matter what car he drives, or what portable he uses. He's actually wrote up his radio numerous times, saying that it cuts in and out. There's not a thing wrong with his radios--he's just too damn loud! How about this: You know when the power goes out, and you get all kinds of calls from citizens wanting YOU to call the power company for them? Well, we have a CAPTAIN of the police department, who lives in the city, and does the same thing! How can we EVER get the citizens to call for themselves when our own captain can't do it??? (I haven't been *lucky* enough to receive this call myself, but my coworkers have) That's all I can think of. Every time I see something about pet peeves on here, it sets me off, and I just have to throw in all my current complaints! (Can you say " TYPE A PERSONALITY? Guest guest
We've got a new trooper who calls in his DOBs like this- you'll have to say it out loud to catch my gist: " DOB is zero five, three one, eighty eight zero. What I consider common spelling and what they consider may be 2 different things. If they refuse to spell it out for me I just answer back, " No wants by my spelling, but I'm not sure about by your common spelling, " Usually takes care of the problem for a while, then they slip right back to old habits. It just didn't work... most codes are not used to keep people from knowing what's going on... it wouldn't work anyway... the codes are used for brevity. His unit number is **1(other numbers taken our so not to embarrass the person that everyone that knows me on the list knows who I am talking about anyway). Most of the time all we get is 1. It got to the point I started saying 1 go ahead. (the goofball doesn't even realize we are making fun of him). It is impossible to run a registration for this person quickly, he cuts off the first part of every registration, so you have the whole thing typed wrong and have to start over (luckily they have to repeat all their reg's just for this reason). I wait to type anything he says. He doesn't just overmodulate he SCREAMS into the radio. Everytime he makes a stop you would swear he is being shot at. One day I solved the problem for the day at least, I came back and screamed at the same level at him. After I was done blowing out the ears of scanner land he came back very quietly with a barely audible, Your Clear. Of course a day later he was back to screaming at us. And this guy is one of the FTO's so now some of his trainee's do the same thing to us. A vicious circle that will never end. Also the same one that gives a half hour disposition speech when he clears any call, telling us a whole bunch of crap that we don't really care about. Guest guest
Hello, This request got so prevalent at my department, it was driving me nuts. I would get all up tight every time I heard it. It was adding extra stress I did not need it one little bit. So I stopped and thought it out and decided to see if I could correct the problem. I would, at the time of dispatch advise the troops that ambulance was on the way. Took a short while, some would still ask, and I answered with, " affirm, as advised'. Took a few days, but it worked. So I was happy and sassy again. Vern Retired Served Proudly Kim Kinsey wrote: > > , it's not just you!
