Guest guest
>>ps... I might disagree a little with one thing... sometimes we do need to >size up what a call " may " become. > Dispatchers are easy to blame, and our mistakes are recorded, cops are not recorded therefore it's too hard to prove they messed up. Just look at what has happened in Minnesota. We have cops sued for aslts and still on the job after being fired, becouse some abritrator does not have the paperwork to support the firing, why, the administration is too lazy to do the work. See the cycle? Lazy administration, lazy/lousy cops. We do size up calls, everyday. As far as what the call may become, where do you draw the line? As far as this particular call, I would have called it a domestic from the start, thus ending the lazy attitude of the officer, and sgt. Since that is what it became, I logically could have forseen that result. Sometimes it's a no win situation, if you downplay it and something happens it comes back on you, if you overreact and something happens due to the level of response you get in trouble or get a reputation for " crying wolf " and nobody wants to respond because they think you are overreacting. It's all has to do with that " grey " area of dispatching, one time the call has this level of response and the next day a similiar call might get a different level of response due to staffing, other pending calls, etc etc etc. I find this impossible sometimes to explain to new people. Nothing is black and white even with good written SOP's, the smallest thing can change the whole call. Sara Winfield Union County Ohio winfield@...
