Guest guest
We’ve been giving my son various doses of melatonin for a couple of years. It puts him out pretty quickly but he can awake later if he’s not tired enough. If your son can handle swallowing a pill (mine can’t so we use sublingual) there’s a type that is both rapid release and sustained released. The sustained part doesn’t dissolve as fast in the GI tract so it will release later, from what I know. Yes, it’s a hormone, I was concerned about the effects on gonadal development but I haven’t found out if truly detrimental. Wikipedia tells how it’s an antioxidant so it does have positive qualities. Guest guest
Also, the brand I got but can’t use is Nature’s Plus -- Sleep Assure (Rapid Release/Sustained Release). Found it at vitamin shoppe.
Guest guest
Melatonin works for this, but if you use it a 4:20 you should only use a very tiny dose, as our bodies begin shutting down the production of melatonin as day breaks. You don't want to further confuse his system. I have given on 2 occasions .75 mg at about 4:30 am. My son returned to sleep w/in 20 mins and woke up at the correct time. He is 4 1/2 and weighs 42 lbs. It seemed to straighten his system out as well (one time was after Daylight Savings and the other was during a vacation to a state with a time zone 1 hour earlier than ours).Hope this helps some, --
Guest guest
The supplements to aide with sleep aren't really addressing the whole problem. Night waking associated with liver. I would take a good look at diet especially fats. Your child as does the human body needs good fats. Silymarin to address liver and I also make a warm lemonade to sip in am before consuming foods. > > We've been giving my son various doses of melatonin for a couple of years. > It puts him out pretty quickly but he can awake later if he's not tired > enough. Guest guest
Doesn’t Silymarin or Milk Thistle affect how medications are processed through the liver so taking something for the liver could mess up how the anti-virals are processed? Guest guest
Also, my DAN doc said to get off the milk thistle that I had him on, because we were starting this anti-viral/anti-fungal - I can ask him if it's because of the reason I mentioned earlier but he did say the charcoal does mess up the action of the meds because it binds to everything. It seems like if liver support supplements act to block out toxins that it could do the same to meds. > > Doesn't Silymarin or Milk Thistle affect how medications are processed > through the liver so taking something for the liver could mess up how the > anti-virals are processed? >
Guest guest
I spent a few years really cleaning up the body with diet, supplements before doing other interventions. I wanted my child sleeping, eliminating, and eating well first. I want as strong a liver as possible while doing other interventions such as antivirals/chelation. This is what is working here. I think this is why it is so wise to stick with someone who will organize an order/sequence of how to approach each child. For example it makes little sense to put a child on an antifungal when the child is still eating sugar, yeast, and foods they can't digest. Every kid is different. Lots of variables to consider in each case. > > Doesn't Silymarin or Milk Thistle affect how medications are processed > through the liver so taking something for the liver could mess up how the > anti-virals are processed? >
